I honestly thought Max Payne was a good choice... then they messed that up...

So I'd have to say Metal Gear Solid... Easily.

None. They will all stink. And, of course here's why.

First off, who do you write the movie for?
The people that played the game and know the story? (Which will loose 1/2 your audience that has no clue about the movie)
Or do you write it for the people that haven't played the game? (Which will bore the people that have, and loose 1/2 your audience)

Second, how do you overcome the fact that MOST games are failed movie plots that get turned into a game because movie studios didn't want the story to begin with? Really, you take a low-quality story line, then turn around and make a movie out of it because it was in a game? That's such shitty logic it's mind blowing.

Third, the popularity of a game isn't based off it's story or art, but it's playability. So, let's go ahead and remove that player participation and FORCE people to sit there and watch a story line that 1/2 of them wished they could fast-forward through WHEN they played the game.

Games-to-Movie idea is a BAD one. Look back at all the ones that have been done and tell me which one was good, or at least lived up to the expectations it had going into the theaters. I bet you $100 that you can't name 3.

I have to disagree with you there friend. Games to movies CAN work you just have to put some time into it. Every video game that became a movie were rushed pieces of shit. Some games translate well to movie like Metal Gear Solid, since you are already playing a movie with some interactive parts, and the Halo franchise. Final Fantasy could of had an awesome movie franchise as well but the fucked it up by completely changing their character from real people with real problem to generic anime characters.

I think that Fallout series could work well as TV series. And lets face it most of the games are more or less based on movies. For few games you can say that they have completely original story. And at this point I can't name any game I would like to see made into a movie.

It's possible to make a good video game movie in the sense that it's possible to make a good movie about a marine fighting his way through a demon infested spaceship. The only thing that's been proven so far is that if you get a game with a shitty storyline and get a shitty director to make a movie about that game, the movie is going to be shitty.

But still ... why? Technology is at a point where games can achieve the cinematic quality they need on their own. It's not like comics where you make still pictures move, or a novel where you add the visual element. The storylines are already told in cinematic format, so you gain absolutely nothing in the transition.
