If it's crap... We'll tell you

Q

What should've worked out, and would've worked out...but for whatever reason didn't.

Alright. Aside from making dumbass satirical threads to further examine the idiots of Spill, I tend to make an intelligible discussion from time to time!

The point of this thread, is kind of like a debate on communism. It's kind of like...communism, on paper, is like the perfect, most fitting form of government. But for whatever reason, it just fails epically when in action.

That said...we simply move from communism...onto movies. What movies can you name that seemed REAL unique and awesome, and perfect...on paper, but for apparently no specific reason failed big time in all aspects.

For me...it would have to be Waterworld.

After Kevin Coster's massive directorial and acting success in Dances With Wolves, he wanted to move onto something more unique. Something more original: Post-apocalyptic fare.

The world mostly ended...it's all covered in water...people fight for small piles of earth. All that stuff left and right...it seemed like a really cool idea. But the elements, ironically, were against it. And looking at this movie...I can't really blame any single area; the directing wasn't bad. The script wasn't horrible. It had decent effects for it's time. Hell, even the acting wasn't the worst. But for some reason, the movie was just a plain big ole' pile of shit...

Like communism, this movie simply steered in the wrong direction while following it's own guidelines...

So.....is this a discussion about Waterworld or movies that had all the ingredients for a great movie but didnt hit?

Since I never saw Waterworld, I shall go with the latter.

That is an interesting way of looking at movies, but right now I cannot think of a movie like that. I'm too tired.

With that, I leave you with this.

Communism is like abstinence, its a great idea but it's never going to work.

Oh, Waterworld was just my own personal take.

You guys post something you think is along the same lines. Post your thoughts!

Mortal Kombat Annihilation

The first movie was decent, and built up from the end of the first movie was great...could have made for a buildup to a great battle for the second movie.

But, they changed everything. Horrible costumes, horrible dialog, horrible effects. There was no huge inner conflict to make you care about Shao Khan doing anything. Shang Tsung was much cooler in every aspect as a movie villain. He was at least somewhat freaky, Khan, who should have been was some bald moron.

Last Action Hero.

Director of Predator, Die Hard, Hunt for Red October-- John McTiernan
Arnold Schwarzenegger -- star of MULTIPLE action films
F. Murray Abraham, Anthony Quinn,Ian McKellen, as the cast...

For some reason, it was promoted as a comedy. Was supposed to be taken as a tongue-in-cheek approach to the whole 'Action' genre of films, while taking 'Action stars' in the "real world" at the same time. Yet, when it came out everyone thought it was suppose to be a "real" action movie and it was just torn apart by critics and fans. Nominated for SIX Razzie Awards, including Worst Actor (Arnold), Worst Director, Worst New Star, Worst Original Song, Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay.

On a sidenote, it's sort of reached a 'cult classic' at this point due to the fact that the characters were constantly being presented as 'over the top' in all aspects. Especially the villain Benedict.

This was a TRUE spoof movie, and it fell completely flat on it's face.
