After seeing what Cabin in the Woods i feel like what other original ideas are left (if any)? With Paranormal Activity and Saw films making the same movie over and over again just throwing more money at is there anything new that can save horror? I think Horror should start looking at doing horror period piece films. The sound of a 50's noir slasher film could work in the right hands. So Spill members i ask what are your thoughts on the state of Horror films and is there a next level for this genre or are we stuck with having to watch 50 bad horror movies to see one good one?

.....

the problem with Horror in this day and age is there is a severe lack of 18 rated films, they are all either 12a or 15 to get more bums on seats instead of going all out and being terrifying. Plus the fact that all the decent Horror films are coming from Europe and Asia more predominantly now, there is no amount of remaking by the yanks can make it otherwise.

As much as I hated the remake of 'nightmare on elm street' at least the director said fuck to anyone who wanted a lesser rating, He made and adult horror (well 18 rated)

That and the fact that the twighshite nonsense has forever made Vampires the unscariest beings on the planet. I am hoping that Hammer's choice to show 'The woman in black' in the cinema as a 12 (to help get more bums on seats) then release it as a 15, means they will use the ill gotten gains to make proper horror like they did in the old days

Art is a mirror is it not? Therefore the current "morality" of the age will colour filmmaker's responses. More appalling shite on tv? Series 7. More enviromental disasters? The Host. More "religious freedom"? Red State. More fragmentation of society? Mordum.

Horror cinema will always have a place. Unless we all find peace within. Since that's a pipedream...the future looks bright for gorehounds.

You want FEAR, motherfucker? BEHOLD!

Indeed, just about the scariest thing I've seen in 30 years of watching films.

Is it weird that when i watch this i think about the south Park episode with the ginger kids?

Ha hahaha. "They have no souls..."

I see an action movie out of this. It would be like 'unleashed' with Jet Li but on a much larger scale.

Actually I see something more like The Wave.

How about this?
