What has been the most difficult game you have ever played?

My question is in the title, so here is my answer, Metro 2033. That game was hard as hell when I played it, I constantly ran out of air, bullets, healthpacks, a it was a pain when I had to recharge my flashlight to see, and some of the creatures were really hard to kill, however it was a good game with a fairly well written story, it was just a very hard game. The sad part is I played the game on easy mode. Any else got one.

There are plenty of games that are difficult, simply because they are unplayable.

Most difficult game while still being enjoyable

I've beaten The Legend of Zelda without a sword, but not this game.

Welcome TO DIE!

I was hesitant to watch that
but it's pretty awesome

I watch these guys all the time.

I made it to the last boss once, and couldn't do it again.  Battletoads is my all time favorite NES game even though the characters are ninja turtle ripoffs.

Fucking Battletoads.

Contra 4, Super Ghouls N' Ghosts (on arrange mode)

Persona 3, balancing the school life for better abilities and keeping my guys up to level is pretty hard also since falling out of love with turn based RPGs it's been hard to stay up at points. Not to mention the Rouge-like elements of randomly generated levels and enemies, which are sometimes pitifully weak or super strong. Not to mention you can easily put in 24 hours and not be a 1/4th done.

Quickly followed by Demon's Souls, You dark souls kids have it noticeably easier due to the fact you guys have Bonfires spaced out decently, in dark souls YOU HAVE TO KILL A BOSS to reach the next Archstone.

The old Splinter Cell games...oh my...

Most difficult game I ever beat was probably... Megaman 1 and 3. I was like 7 when I did. I don't know how difficult they are now, since I remember having such a hard time beating SMB3 at the same age and now I can run through the game like nothing.

This generation the answer would be... Mirror's Edge. The time trials... and trying to get 50 stars... ugh, was that brutal. I believe it was my first platinum.

Demon Souls or Dark Souls.

I'm gonna go with Earthworm Jim. That part where you try and protect Peter Puppy sent me into rages as a kid.
