I am currently writing a zombie novel. Everything is going quite well so far, but I may just need a little help. So what I want to know is: What do you commonly want in your ideal zombie novel.

Read Cell by Stephen King.

You might get some ideas from that novel.
I want a story from the ZOMBIE'S SIDE of things. How they got turned, and the attacks they do on people. How they find them, and the way that they kill others and if they can recognize friends and family.
I really don't read zombie novels(never knew that there were any good novels from that kind). But I like zombie movies, and "Walking Dead" comic series very much. And what I hate about zombie movies/novels/comics is when all characters are taking everything so lightly - "yeah, there are living dead on this world, yeah my whole familly died, yeah the world as we know it have come to an end, I will cry for few minutes and then everything will be allright", I'm just tired to watch when people are walking with guns like fuckin Rambo and killing zombies, like that was theirs everyday job. That pissed me of the most while I was watching "Diary of the dead", where high school kids were killing zombies without almost any fear, or any other emotional reaction. No one from the group freaked out, they were acting like a fuckin SWAT team, just walking around killing zombies, and recording everything on the video like it was some kinda of bizzare roadtrip.
So what I want to say, is that what I want the most of the good zombie story are believable human characters, who are acting like a real people, and have some natural emotional reaction for a zombie invasion, like freaking out, laughing like creazy, passing out, or just going nuts. Something that would make me believe in their actions.
Zombie road movie. When I think about "what would I do in a zombie apocalypse", one of the things I can't seem to get around, is that I live in Canada. Barracading my self, I might last till winter, then I simply freeze with out power, or gas. You think zombies freeze stiff in winter? To survive, I would probably have to drive south. Long as I'm driving, I'm safe, right? I start thinking about all the problems that come up, simply trying to drive down the continent, and what to do for sleep, gas, desperate survivor hitchhikers.... Not only that, you are always moving, so it's all new scenery, that is getting worse, and worse, the longer you drive, no matter where you go. Don't think I've seen that.
Reread that, and forgot to mention long term. Geez, every zombie movie has driveing. Full blown years of travel. Zombie stories wrap up with in a few days. I always figure, that even with a mall, the plot runs out of things for them to do after a few months. This alows a more streched perspective, of what the break down looks like as it's happening, rather than just starting in a mad max desert like RE:Extinction.
