He hasnt made too many movies, but every single one i have enjoyed, including Watchmen which is somewhere in my top 20 in favorite films of all time. but it seems like the opinions are split. What do you think of him?
Overrated. His only strength is in visual effects, he can't direct a real movie because he's just a horrible director with good artistic vision. Except, he doesn't even have that because he keeps stealing frames from the comic books he adapts, so he's got very little talent.
Exactly. Visual effects are his forte, so he's really not that great of a director. He's in the same boat with Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich, pretty much.
True, but my point was that they were visually driven directors. Bay with his cocaine induced stupor and Snyder with his hour and 40 minutes of slow motion.
Oh, my love for Snyder is a beautiful downward spiral of what was previously my love towards a zombie film maestro!
I adore his adaptation of Dawn of the Dead!
I feel thoroughly indifferent regarding 300!
I fucking hate Watchmen, as it's only film that has ever convinced me fleeing the theater would be a capital idea!
(Truth be told, I actually don't find the graphic novel very engaging either)

Dawn of the Dead is fun.
300 is great fun.
Watchmen is terrible. I'd like to see him try to create an original intellectual material, but so far he appears incapable. He had absolutely no depth to bring to Watchmen; he was just interested in recreating the pictures in live action, not telling a story. Just listen to the interviews. What is it he's always going crazy over? The god damn sets. How he put a copy of Under the Hood on a bookshelf in the background. That was his source of excitement.
I honestly don't think any fans of the Watchmen film should give Snyder any credit at all. All he did was recreate the setting and film the actors delivering Alan Moore's dialogue verbatim. He brought NOTHING.
i thought DoD was good, not great, but passable
and 300 was better, again not all that, but still a enjoyable film
Watchmen(to me) was his best film and i enjoyed every moment of it

i don't think its fair to say Snyder is a bad director because he relies on graphics and visual effects
i mean i think of directors like i think of rpg hero attributes
story> blah blah/camera work>blah blah, and so on
i mean
if i were to say Scorsese sucks because he doesn't have cars flying at the screen crushing people
or brain matter all over the walls of his scenes, then i'd be shunned from the internet
the guy's only done a few films, give him a chance
One thing that goes hand-in-hand with the holidays, aside from gifts and overeating, is snow…especially if you live on the East Coast (Sorry, Texas). When it comes to scary movies, filmmakers aren’t afraid to put them against an eerie, snowy setti…
I do not know about you, but every time I see the tumbler sequence in Batman Begins or a lightsaber fight in any of the Star Wars movies, I think to myself: “Wow, how cool would it be to have that in real life.” So my question to you, fellow Spillio…
