I Thought there should be a thread where we can all could discuss books we are currently reading, recently read, or are planning to read. Feel free to provide your own recommendations/opinions about books you like/dislike.

Right now, I'm reading The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. It's no Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but still a good read. He hadn't fully developed his Gonzo approach when he wrote it, more Hemingway than Hunter.

If you like your Martin, be sure to check out "Fevre Dream". A really good vampire read.

Just finished Redshirts by John Scalzi

It was great, but that was the most meta shit I ever read.

This is a popular science book. In it Lynas discussed planetary boundaries and argues in favour of nuclear energy and GM crops for practical environmental reasons. I recommend it.

I just finished The Eye of the World and I absolutely loved it.  It kinda got slow in the middle, but the whole third act was grade A awesomesauce.

I really like that series especially #1-3 it starts to lag in the middle of the series and then picks it up again. Definitely worth reading all 13 or however many there are. Everytime a new book comes out I reread them all and I don't even read that much.

Finished Game of Thrones a while back, and ofcourse everyone knows it's great. And the next book I plan to read is Leviathan Wakes. A friend recommended it to me as a hard scifi with hints of horror, space crime story. I have absolutly no idea what i'm going to be in for but it sounded amazing. The book should be arriving in the next couple of days so I can't wait.

Fritz Stern's Gold and Iron: Bismarck, Bleichröder, and the Building of the German Empire.

Rereading "My tank is fight?"

I had a great time reading this book and I can't wait to read the second one in the series.

Currently reading the last book in the Johannes Cabal trilogy The Fear Institute.

Wait, this is out?  Amazon isn't offering it, but I see you can get it from some overseas sellers.  I love Johannes Cabal, one of my favorite series.

Reading Rip it Up & Start Again by Simon Reynolds. Reappraisal of the "post punk" period 78 - 84. amusing to read this now, as most of the bands have reformed. I find that when i found out he was a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, i went off him severely, but i'm enjoying this.

Also reading Prick Up Your Ears by John Lahr, a biography of playwright Joe Orton. May inspire me to watch an uncut version of the film that i've found on amazon for a pittance!! Ahem.
