I Thought there should be a thread where we can all could discuss books we are currently reading, recently read, or are planning to read. Feel free to provide your own recommendations/opinions about books you like/dislike.
Right now, I'm reading The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. It's no Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but still a good read. He hadn't fully developed his Gonzo approach when he wrote it, more Hemingway than Hunter.
finished Breathers: A Zombies Lament - an interesting take on the zombie genre. Instead of being a Horror or a Comedy it goes with being more of a mix bag including a sort of Dramatic/Comedy/Horror/Romance but starring zombies. The book takes place in a reality where zombies are still the undead but they still retain all their regular brain functions. Because they're the undead they also deal with all the legal issues you would expect the undead would have to deal with. In other words they're less than 2nd class citizens: they aren't allowed to harm others but anyone can do anything the want to a zombie. Also, since they no longer have an SS# they aren't allowed to have jobs... they aren't even supposed to be in public without some type of chaperon.
With that type of a world it's interesting to see how the characters deal with the situations and discoveries they encounter along the way.l
BTW: it's being worked into a movie produced by Diablo Cody (Juno)
and I gave up on Jailbait Zombie. I won't deny that the title was the selling point to me but about a 3rd into the book I realized it just wasn't keeping my interesting.
I actually was given these novels from my cousin,
and next time I see her I'll be giving her Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird,
and hopefully she'll lend me King Rat by James Clavell.
Just read "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Really great book, for those who like to read historical non-fiction book. It is easy to read with great characters.
I just started the first book of a fantasy series The Sword of Truth, called Wizard's First Rule, by Terry Goodkind. I am loving it! XD
I had succumb to the hype and bought both Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z a couple weeks ago because I was in the 'Halloween' mood. I have yet to get the chance to read them seeing how I have much more important Halloween related things to worry about but I bet they both make great Christmas reads.
Controversy (noun) - a prolonged public dispute, debate, or contention; disputation concerning a matter of opinion.
Rather simple explanation isn't it. Yet, recently (once again) I found myself defending the historical value of the 1915's silent B/…
