As you people already watch Watchmen and The Dark Knight and these two films don't just rely on that old standby -- being "dark" and "edgy" -- they also take their subject matter into truly adult territory, not just in terms of sex and violence (as in Watchmen in particular) but also in theme. The superhero movie has grown up this past year, and it's Snyder and Christopher Nolan who we can thank for that.
So tell me which one is better and why ?
ED, both are awesome explorations of the superhero, the modern-day reiteration of the mythology and folklore character. Both explore deep, moving concepts and apply deep characterization to their characters and/or their universe. Thus, I adore them both.
I just...i just don't get the hate on Watchmen. Really, the detractors really have to give an actual reason, not that old BS about "OH, it's not the book!" and crap like that...i mean, people think Dorothy has ruby slippers for goodness sake, when in Baum's book she had silver slippers.
And slow-mo, really? Cloverfield had the complaint of motion sickness, and i called BS on that. Unless there was a different Watchmen, the slow-mo was never a problem.
Watchmen is The Dark Knight of 2009, and both films should be respected, as they give us mature storylines with belivable characters. I'll take these wonderful cinema superhero epics over trash like Spiderman 3 anyday of the week. Now that was a shitty film.
What i'm saying ED is BOTH. I enjoyed both on the exact same level; one isn't better than the other IMO. Now, if you wanted to compare Ironman to The Dark Knight or X-men to Watchmen, that would be a different story.
That's irony, ED...just as i see both Watchmen and The Dark Knight as the pinnacles of mature superhero storytelling, i see Spiderman 3 and X-men 3 as the most terrible sequels, and examples of studio and parent comic influence that destroys the franchises storywise.
