As you people already watch Watchmen and The Dark Knight and these two films don't just rely on that old standby -- being "dark" and "edgy" -- they also take their subject matter into truly adult territory, not just in terms of sex and violence (as in Watchmen in particular) but also in theme. The superhero movie has grown up this past year, and it's Snyder and Christopher Nolan who we can thank for that.
So tell me which one is better and why ?
The Dark Knight is definitely better because the story of Watchmen holds no surprises since its VERY close to the book. TDK was a roller coaster where you did not know who would live and who would die. That's probably the biggest mistake when adapting a work like Watchmen that doesn't have a continuing story. It doesn't allow directors and/or writers to experiment with characters. If Zac Snyder and David Hayter (the original screenwriter) experimented at all with Watchmen, fans would be in an uproar because the source material is so beloved. Batman does not have rules or guidelines on how the character and story should be interpreted but Watchmen does, resulting in very little room for the filmmakers to stretch their creative muscles.
From the perspective of the suits in Hollywood, The Dark Knight is better than Watchmen simply because Watchmen has taken a 70% percent drop at the box office so far this week.
Who Watches the Watchmen? Apparently only comic book fans.
Box office tracker Exhibition Relations is already estimating Warner Bros.' Watchmen is tracking to earn $16 million this weekend, its second in release, a precipitous 70% drop over its $55 million opening frame.
The publication places the film's earnings at $84 million by the end of the weekend, and estimates its total box office earnings will top out under $120 million, significantly under its estimated production and marketing budget of $150m.
This just in: Batman kicked Dr. Manhattan's nekkid blue ass.
Watchmen nose-dived 78 percent to an estimated $5.4 million, lifting its total to $73.4 million in eight days. By comparison, 300 fell 64 percent to $10.1 million in its second Friday (with $106.4 million in the till). Among superhero movies, Watchmen's Friday-to-Friday drop was one of the steepest, rating slightly worse than X-Men: The Last Stand and the first Hulk.
Box Office Mojo also reports worldwide Watchmen has only pulled down $26 million worldwide. Less than the $30 million The Incredible Hulk made and Watchmen is a much bigger movie than that one.
Watchmen vs. The Dark Knight is only a argument on sites like this. Out in the real world, the public has spoken and they're not feeling the love.
Hey everybody,
I was just thinking: Now that a remake of Clash of the Titans is coming, I was thinking about a remake of Jason and the Argonauts.
I think there could be, if Clash is a big boxoffice hit. What do you think.
