If it's crap... We'll tell you

Well since the movie has now come out here in the U.S. today, i am wondering for those of you have read the book what your favorite moments are that made you laugh, sad, shock, or just plain awesome in your eyes.

My favorite moment is Chapter 6 when Rorschach is being evaluated by Dr. Malcolm Long after being arrest for being framed of a murder. This whole chapter delves into a mind that truly is sadistic while at the same time has some logic to it that really makes you think twice of how you see the character for the rest of the story.

It's a comic book, not a graphic novel. Graphic novels are singe stories exclusively released in a big bound format, comic books are multiple single issues. "Watchmen" was single issues before being bound into a single trade volume.

Are you serious?

How about we just call them all funny books from now on. That stops all the confusion right there.

You bet your poser ass I'm serious. The quest for mainstream conglomerates to keep "comic books" as a term for kids and "graphic novels" as a term for adults is serious business. Comics aren't for kids, you shouldn't let the medium get disrespected like that.

Well, the name comic book originates from the idea of a collection of comic strips. The original name was intended for childish comedic purposes. Do I agree with you? Yes. But I see the reason why people want to replace "comic books" with the phrase "graphic novel."

It just seems like your arguing about genre specifics. Will Eisner's A Contract with God was considered the first graphic novel, but told several seperate stories that weren't connected except for the New York setting. Does that work really count as a graphic novel? It's like saying a comedy can't be dramatic or a drama can't be funny.

Whatever Watchmen is, whether it be a graphic novel, a limited series, a miniseries, a maxi series, a comic book, a book, or a graphic novel, just accept it as a piece of art. I see no reason to attack a person for it.

You're missing my point.

I'm saying that it's important that people don't feel uncomfortable saying "comic book".

I'd have to agree. Chapter Six is the highlight of the book. That final page when Dr. Long looks at the inkblot is so depressingly beautiful. Wish it had made it into the movie.

My favorite part of the book. Doctor Manhattan recalling his life moments of past, future, and present.

My top 3 favorite moments in the graphic novel

1) Rorschach escaping from the police in Monolch's apartment, using only a hairspray flame thrower and pepper shaker. To bad he didn't get away.

2) Rorschach breaking the drunk guys fingers in the bar for information

3) Comedian and Nite Owl talking in the streets about how the world is in a masive amount of choas, and the so called "Americain Dream"
