Watchin Dark Knight Returns gave me a crazy idea...
Just finished a double bill of The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2 (AMAZING btw) and it got me thinkin.
I remember a long time ago there was a lot of talk about the idea of Clint Eastwood possibly playing Batman if there was a Dark Knight Returns movie (http://thecomicscode.weebly.com/the-dark-knight-returns.html). Eastwood is obviously too old these days, but if they were to finally do a live action movie (with superhero movies being so popular and profitable these days I'd say the chances are better than ever, if still a little slim), who would be the best choice now to play the ageing Bruce Wayne?
A tough question no doubt, but the first name that popped into my head after much deliberation was...! (drumroll please....) Harrison Ford....
Now I know at first it sounds a little crazy, even laughable, but I really think it could work... maybe. Ford certainly used to fit the model for a charming playboy Bruce Wayne type, and with leading roles drying up for Ford it might be a perfect opportunity - many felt he was too old to return to playing Indiana Jones and feel seeing him back as Han Solo in Episode 7 would be a mistake, but for this role his age would be ideal, and though he was a little creaky in Crystal Skull, I can't think of too many other actors his age who'd still be up to such a physically demanding, action-orientated role.
It's true it might be impossible to take Ford seriously as Batman. He's so imbedded in our minds as Han Solo and Indiana Jones that 3 completely iconic badasses might end up being one too many. And much as I'd like to see it, and much as I think it could work if done right, the idea of any old guy dressed like Batman is kinda inherently hysterical.... at first anyway...
Well, if not Ford then who else? If they were to do a live action Dark Knight Returns, who would your pick be? Do you think it's at all likely Dark Knight Returns may yet see the light of day as live action movie now that they're lookin to the post Nolan future of the franchise, or is it just a fanboy pipe dream? And if you've thought about this before, any ideas on who could play some of the other roles, like an ageing Joker or the new Robin for instance?

As for Eastwood as an old Bruce Wayne, that would have worked like 10 to 20 years ago, but now? I don't know.

That's a tough one (oh, and congratulations on being able to see pt.2; we have to wait till the end of the month in the states). If I were to have cast it in the 90s, I would have said Stacey Keach would have been a hell of a 50 year old Bruce Wayne. Maybe Brian Denehy too. I'll be darned if I can come up with an actor today I think would fit the bill, but I'll keep it in the back of my mind and drop a comment when I see someone. Great question. And based on Pt.1, I love The Dark Knight Returns. Even the music fits the animation. I can't wait to see part 2.

The music is fantastic, spot-on for Batman, which is, I guess, appropriate. Love the idea of Brian Denehy as an old fat and cantankerous Batman, funny as might be. And ur right, it's real hard thinkin of anyone who'd really fit the bill now - only other names I could think of were Tommy Lee Jones and Nick Nolte - Jones would be too southern, Nolte would be too... crazy, but it's still fun to picture them both in the role and how differently they'd play it.

I am thinking of Mickey Rourke in Sin City and he might be able to pull it off with the right makeup. Love the Jackie Chan suggestion. I'm laughing imagining that last mudpit scene in Pt.1 with Chan or Schwartzenegger saying those lines.
