You know it's been an terrible year when the only interesting new game released this year was a visual novel about cripple girls.

True that homeslice, but I still feel that no title I've played this year (KS excluded) was anything more than mediocre at best.
Nothing wowed me at all, not even in the slightest.

Didn't play Dishonored (As I've grow bored with shooters, even those of the story driven and scifi kind, because of thier oversaturation in the market. Trailer sold it as brown and grey FPS #5678864, wasn't interested.) and the Walking Dead is more of an interactive movie than a game. (Yes I understand the hypocritical nature of this after praising Katawa Shoujo, but I expect more from Telltale after Strong Bad and BttF. That, and KS actually made me emote hardcore. Rare for a video game, especially an animu one.)
I also dislike the Walking Dead television show though, so I admit I may be slightly biased.

Yet I can't help but feel that it's success is more attributed to it's popular subject matter rather than the game itself.
Also, adventure games weren't dead. They just weren't popular. Again, for Telltale's recent successes in the genre see Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People and Back to the future. Both are infinitely better than the Walking Dead in terms of game play.
