A prequel of THE THING FUCK NO the 80s movie is a classic, the best thing carpenter EVER did!!!!! So where is this prequel to take place?in the norwegian camp cos it was them who let the fucker out in the first place.I FUCKIN HATE PREQUELS......LEAVE GREAT MOVIES ALONE FOR FUCK SAKE!!!
How exactly is the prequel (or sequels or remakes, for that fact) damaging the original? Are your mental faculties so limited that viewing or even hearing about these somehow distorts your memories or enjoyment of the original in your mind? How does Carpenter's film become less of a 'classic' once someone expands upon or reinterprets his effort?

Star wars!!

But i did like Star trek but thats not prequel is it, same with Batman but Christopher Nolan is a great director and the Dark knight changed the way people look at superhero movies, if they keep the feeling of isolation and fear that the Carpenter movie had i suppose there no harm going back to some storys. As for my mental state well if you think your post would set me on a rant about how prequels suck well no dude i see your point but i still hate the fuckin things

IPrequels and remakes don't damage the original.  What upsets me is the lack of originality with regard to prequels and remakes.  Sure, some thought has to be put into making a prequel, but let's face it, prequels have become the flavor of the week for over the last few years.  it's getting old.  Remakes these days are made just to make a quick buck on an already existing formula.  Yes, The Thing was a remake, but I believe that it was one that was done not to cash in, but to pay hommage.  It seems that everyone these days is remaking older horror films just to cash in.  If it was true hommage, there wouldn't be one coming out every month.

Carpenters best? You seem to be confused. :P

Yeah i just blew my top and posted a rant without thinking, Hallloween is as good as the Thing but what do i know i liked They live!

I liked THEY LIVE too. It's a great concept but the delivery just left something to be desired.

I wouldn't say They Live was a great delivery but left something to be desired. It has Roddy Piper and Keith David, that alone is enough to entertain me and would be very pissed off if they even think about remaking it. I agree with Slap, they don't harm the originals they just harm me, if they put some of the cash they earned into something decent and fresh i would be overjoyed but you know that just around the corner lies another long of line of them ready to be fired hap-hazzardly at our screens.

Another thing that is bothering me is the lack of 18 certificate movies nowadays, especially horror. If Hammer made 'The woman in black' as a 12 for the cinema to get more money to eventually start funding a true Hammer Horror revival of 18 c Scarefests. I watched the re-make of nightmare on elm street (i would be a hypocrite if I slagged off remakes without watching some of them to confirm my suspicions) and they only thing I liked was the fact it was an 18 and refused to make it for anything less than that.

Agreed.
The rise of the planet of the apes.

Me too, even though the trailer left me on the fence. Although, I always like to give a film the benefit of the doubt when it comes to trailers. James Franco is a favorite, and after all, at least we know they can't fuck it up worse than Tim Burton and Marky Mark.

Tim Burtons planet of the apes did suck balls
