Oho, no they're not. Members bitch and moan all the time how a review is unfair or clearly positive or negative but the only one who says whether it's fresh or rotten is the reviewer who submitted it.
Rotten Tomatoes has never, EVER been a gauge of how good a movie is, just how many reviewers LIKED the movie. Out of 7, 14% of the reviewers liked it. That's all it means. It's a compilation of what critics think.
My point is though that you lashed out in an almost hilarious over the top way. The only thing you could've done to make it worse was mention Hitler.
Eh, I think you are all making knee jerk reactions. Mentioning a Rotten Tomatoes score does not automatically mean someone is not thinking for themselves. A 14 percent is pretty god damn low and while there's something wrong with letting that dictate whether or not you see the film or let yourself enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with being a little weary of it.
I made a point to lower my expectations after watching that 10 minute clip compilation thing that was on youtube, this before any reviews were out. The film does look awful so I'm not surprised by this early reception.
My question still remains unanswered though. What do we care what Rotten Tomatoes are saying about a movie on Spill.com?
If we want Rotten Tomatoes based information, wouldn't it be more logical to go to RT's website? I'm on Spill.com for Spill's information about the movie, not someone else's.
I don't know. Maybe some people do care. It's a harmless discussion. The spill community doesn't need to nuke every discussion they don't personally care about. Seriously, I don't understand why everyone here is so addicted to jumping on people.
There is no standard for the quality of discussions on Spill, and when you consider amount of responses serious movie discussions get, why should people even bother trying to create a quality topic? New members join every day. Discussions like this will not go away so you might as well just ignore them instead of wasting your time bashing them.
How odd that the forum is called General Movie Shit, not General Spill Shit. Even odder how we have forums to talk about comic books, video games, television, and even one where we can talk about whatever.
I'm gonna side with meddle on this one. I'm not saying that the number 14 should be directly associated with the movie terminator salvation as it's official rating but rottentomatoes is a really good tool.
They take all these critics, credible critics from legitimate papers and stuff, (because i've looked into what it takes to be considered a critic on their site, not just anybody can do it,) and the critics say whether the movie is worth checking out or not. it's as simple as that. 14% means that the majority of critics don't like the movie. then they also show you the average rating, and they do the same with their own personally hand picked critics, and again with the general public. I think it's pretty much as good as you can get ratings wise.
Spill is a fun site but I don't really find their reviews a useful guide of any sort. Plus spill only has 5 critics, all guys from the same country state gender and age group, and they're friends with each other who often watch the movie together, and then discuss it before they review it. You get a much greater range of opinions on rotten tomatoes, and because it's such a wider sample and a more simplified system, the percentage is a great indicator or how the movie is being received. It's something you just don't get on Spill, and I think it's definitely a good guide as to whether or not a movie will be good.
So 14 doesn't mean that rottentomatoes rated the movie a 14 out of 100, it means that really only 14% of the people who have seen it liked it, and that means it's very likely that we won't like it either.
By the way it went up to 25, and user rating went up to 61.
HOWEVER I admit that for now, the sample isn't big enough to say because there are only 8 reviews. But even that is a greater sample than the spill crew and I think that makes it more useful.
It means that in order to get a 14% of ANYTHING, all you have to do is get SEVEN out of 100 people to say something.
Seven people hated Dark Knight, so therefore by Rotten Tomatoes method of figures, it should be rated a 14% too.
What I dislike is two things.
1) I hate the people that use RT's method on other sites. I'm not on Spill.com to see what RT has to say about a movie. IF I cared about them, I would go to RT's site and look into a movie there.
2) I just hate RT's method of using percentages. If a movie gets a 51% then that makes a 'good' movie because the bigger percentage says it is good. That's not true at all, and we all know that. If only 51% of the people that reviewed the movie liked it, that should mean it's a mediocre film at best. Percentages are good ONLY when dealing with mathematics, and physics. Outside of those two fields of expertise, using percentages to determine the "Good-bad" aspects of something is silly and highly inaccurate.

I'm no math wizard, but isn't seven out of a hundred... um... seven percent?
As for the second paragraph, seven people hated The Dark Knight, out of how many?
If you're saying that seven out of a hundred people hated The Dark Knight, that would imply that ninety three out of one hundred didn't respond negatively, and it's rating would be 93%.
I think you're confused. I understand why. Getting angry about nothing can take a lot out of someone.
Maybe you should lie down for a while.
If you're looking for a clearer explanation of how flawed the idea of using the Rotten Tomato's percentage scale to judge the quality of a film is, you need look no further than this post, made by a suave, dashing, devilishly handsome chef...
