Permalink Reply by Mr. E on January 19, 2012 at 9:56am I'm usually not crazy about movie adaptions of books I've actually read, because I find myself comparing the two more than just letting myself enjoy the movie on its own terms. I know that's my own fault, but it's just what I do.
I'm going against the what you've established here, because I'm gonna have to go outside of movies to give my favorite adaption, and that's the new "Game of Thrones" series on HBO. Ya, it's TV, and not a movie, but it's the closest I've ever seen an adapted work come to the tone of the book it's based on, while still feeling like its own thing, and even adding some extra elements that weren't even present in the novel.

1."Gods and Monsters" based on "Father of Frankenstein" by Cristopher Bram
-."True Grit" based on "True Grit" by Charles Portis
-."There Will Be Blood" based on "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair
-."The Green Mile" based on "The Green Mile" by Stephen King
-."127 Hours" based on "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" by Aron Ralston
-."The Silence of the Lambs" based on "The Silence of the Lambs" by Thomas Harris
-."Scent of a Woman" based on "Il buio e il miele"("Darkness and Honey") by Giovanni Arpino
8."The Shawshank Redemption" based on "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King
9."The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" based on "The Return of the King" by J. R. R. Tolkien
10."The Godfather" based on "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo
Note:As you can see, I won't put the first 7 movies on different places because I love them all so much. For me, they all deserve number 1.

Thanks for the comment, sometimes I read the books first, other times I watched the movies and after that, because I liked the film, I also read the books.
