I saw the new predators movie when it was in theaters. I liked the movie but after thinking about it I
decided that I don't like the idea of multiple predators and here's why. I think all predator fans would agree that the first predator movie is by far the best of the franchise. In the first movie there is only ONE predator. To me, this alone makes the predator more scary and mystic. I have noticed that all the other predator movies fall short because they have too many predators and they seem to compete with one another for the audiences attention. In the latest predators movie they even have rival predators which in my opinion doesn't work because they cancel each other out. It's difficult to be impressed by either one of them because they're all kicking each others ass.  And as for the predator dogs, Besides being horribly animated, I think the idea just doesn't work. The original Predators film was a creature feature and the most effective way to execute such film is to have "the creature" in this case the predator, be the only creature in the film. Another aspect of the predators I'm not found of is the creature from another planet idea. Again the first move worked so well because they never tell you were the predator comes from or what it is. It is almost left entirely to the audience to ponder the existence of such a creature. The first movie left me with a "is it a man or is it a monster" feeling and that to me is far more scarier then an alien from outter space.

With all that said I'm probably the only one who feels this way about this movie but I would like to know what others think in regards to predator movies having too many predators in them. Also I'm one of those people who believe that movies, especially horror films, shouldn't explain everything to the audience and are more effective if they leave at least a little to the imagination. I liked the first Jeepers Creepers movie for that reason. They explain nothing about the origins of that creature and that makes the movie pretty creepy.

Well, I am kind of agreeing with you about the too many Predators issue... I didn't really buy the whole rival clan with the bigger Predators who also looked uglier, I just thought they should've worked on the original Predator more however I thought the Predator dogs were cool and it was quite obvious from the first movie that Predator was an extraterrestial with all his gadgets and stuff, besides I've never really looked at the first movie as a horror, more like a Sci-Fi/Action/Thriller.
The high tech gadgets may have definitely been a sign that the creature was extraterrestrial, and that's cool, I just don't like how film makers think they have to explain so much. One guy watching it may see an alien from another planet and another guy may see a weapon from another country. It would have been much cooler if they left it to the audience to decide in their own minds what the creature is.
Personally I must say that those kinds of endings where the viewer has to decide wether how it ended is starting to become a kind of overused concept in movies now adays, but of course that's just me.
"I didn't really buy the whole rival clan with the bigger Predators who also looked uglier"
Really? because I just watched the spill review and you left the last comment, here's what you said
"and the concept of two Predator races really worked, truly a worthy sequel!"

...
You know, opinions can change however I had abit of mixed feelings after first seeing it, looking back I think they could've had same kind of Predators but different clans.
I also agree with you about "too many" Predators.

The problem happens with the ending of Predator 2. Once we learned that they aren't really "solo aliens", it sort of ruined the whole mystic surrounding the Predator-species as a whole. Now, people want to "know about their planet and society" and other such crap. No, what we want (At least true Predator fans anyway) is another story where the focus is on a solo-Predator being more dangerous, cleverer, wiser, trickier, more cunning and just outright dangerous than some group of "trained" individuals that have to figure out how to both survive AS WELL as figure out what exactly it is that is hunting them down and why.

Once we get back to the survive/hunting stories, we'll finally have another good Predator movie.
Good point. I was gonna mention the ending of predators 2 and how it open the door for this multiple predators crap. I totally agree.
I'm a big Predator fan. And in a way, the 1st movie spoiled us in that we saw an experienced, single hunter predator which by their society standards is more awesome and rare. They don't kill unarmed or sick prey, they've earned the right to hunt alone, and they have a strong sense of "honor" to them. Honestly, I don't think anybody in the Predators movie would have survived if the original predator or even the one in AVP 2 showed up.

These so called "Super Predators" in the latest movie did not impress me. They still hunted in threes which tells me they weren't experienced enough yet to hunt alone. We are told that they are a superior species of predator more so than shown. They hunt on their home turf as opposed to on foreign soil. They were hunting a mix match of people instead of an experienced, unified, military unit. And finally, their honor is in question seeing as how predators from different clans don't usually hunt and kill each other (or so I've been told).

Anyways, we didn't get a group of predators on par with the skills of the original predator imo. Just 3 assholes who send dogs and scouting "birds" in first before they step into the mix. I somewhat enjoyed the movie but a lot of what made the first Predator great just wasn't here this time around.
I agree 100%. It would be nice if the film makers had the same train of thought.
Oh and did you notice how weak the "classic" predator was in that movie? They bring back the iconic looking predator with the iconic looking mask that everyone remembers just to have him tied to a tree and later decapitated. Ain't that a bitch.
I hear you! Bad move. I think there were a few good ideas in the movie but there were also a lot of missed opportunities.
I liked the movie. Good fun and scary moments.
Starting the movie falling is great and then the title! BAM!
Impossible to expect it would be superior to the first one which is a classic. But it is really a true sequel. Forgot completely the other predator movies. Only this deserves to be remembered.
The trouble of this movie is the second half which is kinda of a mess. I felt like we were in Lost...People betraying each other all the time. That sucked.
If Rodrigues wanted to be faithful to the concept he sould give us a united team and then make them slowly die together.
The several predators dont bother me. But I see the effect of having just one in the first movie.
I was just expecting to see more strategy and tech armory from the predators.
Did not liked the predator dogs. I dont know, why to create cgi effects of alien animals if they look unreal and fake...
The soundtrack is awesome! Very close to Alan Sivestri gold score in some extension.
The last fight is remarkable.
