For me, it's all about finding the quality stuff and casting aside the stuff that's been released simply because "vampires are the hot thing right now!"
-True Blood has a decent plot, but man... that dialog is pr-etty bad... (or at least it was for the first three episodes... Maybe it's gotten better, but I wouldn't know. I stopped watching with episode 3)
-Twilight, eh, I might take a pass on that. from what I've heard, I'm not the target audience for that story.
-I haven't seen Vampire Knight... how is it?
What I WANT To see is "Let the right one in". I've been hearing nothing but praise for that film from all angles (and here on Spill, just ask Co-Host)
My all-time favorite Vampire stories are in a book series by Charlie Huston. it follows the cases of a Private Investigator/Tough guy living in Manhattan... amist a secret Vampire Sub-Culture. Check out the "Joe Pitt Casebooks" Already Dead (used to be my profile pic until recently), No Dominion, Half the Blood of Brooklyn, and the most recent one that came out this fall, Every Last Drop.
They're all REALLY GOOD. they are great Crime/Detective stories, and they're excellent representations of Vampire/Horror stories.
I will have to agree with true blood...I even find it kinda to dark and twisty, even for a vampire series. But it gets better. Dialog not so much improvement, though I found myself hooked in after a while.
Twilight is not really a must see but if find urself with nothing to do its a film to watch...I rate it as a rental...maybe its because I did not fall in love with the book either...hahaha
Vampire knight is cool...if ur into the usual love triangle found in most animes...in this version vampires have blood tablets and can walk around during the day, some people find it relatable with twilight though...a darker version
Let the right one in...hehehehe...wna watch that one 2...but they say its an r-rated movie...and isn't that something co-host is usually into?
The book series you are describing sounds almost like a tv show...moonlight...I will check on those though

The Joe Pitt casebooks are MUCH better than Moonlight. the series Moonlight was not that bad... but the Joe Pitt books are AWESOME. It's a perfect blend of the Crime/Detective genre and the Vampire/Horror genre. And moreover, it FEELS like New York City, even if it's the secret Vampire underbelly version of it.
Meh. It comes in phases, like all fads. There was a similar thing in the mid-to-late nineties when Anne Rice was all the rage. It'll pass when something else comes along. There will be good stuff and bad stuff, as with any genre, just don't let it get to you too much, wah, ha, ha, ha!

Now for years comic book movies have been getting made, trashed, and applauded. Also, video games have been getting sh**ed on since they've been discovered by filmmakers. BUT, with the HUGE exception of Dragonball Evolution (it still hurts, folks),…
