To Catch a Thief question
I just saw To Catch a Thief, and something seems to bother me with the story.
Did all the ex-cons know about Bertanis plan, or was it just him, Foussard and his daughter?
This I don't care for as much as the next question: Why did Bertani help Robie escape from the police at the beginning, when he could have been jailed there and then? I mean, Bertani had already stolen a whole lot of things, and blamed it all on Robbie, why not let him be catched and get over it nice and clean?

First question: If by ex-cons you mean the people working at the restaurant, then judging by the way they acted when they saw Robie it's hard to believe they knew about Bertain's plans.
Second question: If Robie would have been free, then Bertani could continue stealing and have it blamed on Robbie. Probably Bertani was counting on the fact that Robie wouldn't come close to finding out he was behind the whole plan, and thus wouldn't be a threat. Although it was pretty obvious that only the people who worked with him before could know how to mimic him, and the only people who would be to mimic had to be people with some experience.
