The Time Traveler's Wife (film and book)

Let the Right One In and The Time Traveler's Wife are two really good examples of what a Genre Film truly is. A huge element to the story that is just apart of the story and not what makes the story. this is not a fantasy or sci-fi film, it is a drama, it is a love story, unlike most love stories you get to see with this one, not only the beginning of a love story but also the beginning of the lives of two people who love one other. "I've been inlove you my entire life" this story is defined by that phrase and line. the story is about two separate people and how their lives intertwine with one other, the story is never told from one perspective or narrator but rather third person. Both (Time Traveler's and Wife's) perspectives are like two separate stories going on at the same time involving the same two people but never at the same time. they grow as individuals and their relationship also reflects it at the same time, realizing they are leaning on each other like a plant does to another. It's like watching rain mix with oil into something beautiful. and at the end, finally at the very end you see the two separate were never really separate at all but the same the entire time, The Time Traveler and his Wife.

Permalink Reply by Joanne on November 18, 2009 at 4:19pm: To me, the film would be maybe a high rental, and I'm being generous. The film is a hell of a let down from the book. I saw the film with my friend, who liked it...and then I borrowed her the book, and she changed her mind completely. The actors were wrong (even though Eric Bana was good eye candy). I'd always imagined a taller Billy Crudup as Henry. What I loved about the book is that it could be sentimental, without being sickly. The screenplay writer Bruce Joel Rubin (who wrote Ghost) went the typical glossy, schmaltzy way and got rid of most of the depth and darker elements of the book. The final scene was changed from bittersweet(book), to extra cheesy. It felt wrong. I do like Ghost. But this film had the feel of Ghost 2 and it shouldn't have. I'll stick to the book and my imagination. Wow, I guess I can be quite vocal about this, only because The Time Traveler's Wife is my favourite book.; ▶ Reply to This

i try not to compare them because i know i'll find big faults that will just ruin it for me.

but as movie and book, i just love this story so much. but if anything the movie made the book even better and to me they support one another.; ▶ Reply to This
