I am Count Jackula (from the Planet Drakula) and I review the strange, forgotten, and just plain bad movies from all eras of cinema history (it's amazing what you can find in DVD discount bins). Far from the blockbusters of the summer, these are SHLOCKBUSTERS.
Before you've only heard of them in legend. But now your friend, Count Jackula, finds them and brings them to you!
Let us start our journey together with Jack Frost (1996) a story about a serial killing snowman.

Permalink Reply by Count Jackula on May 8, 2012 at 3:27am Oh come on, your avatar pic is FRED WILLIAMSON! Purposefully crap movies are half that guy's filmography.
Permalink Reply by Count Jackula on May 8, 2012 at 3:56am Williamson was one of the stars of Warrior of the Lost World. Any artistic integrity is gone...LONG GONE.
Permalink Reply by Count Jackula on May 8, 2012 at 6:05am integrity may be gone in your eyes but I do not believe for a second that this film, or many others in his back catalog, were made to be deliberately bad
Yes. But to put them in with deliberately bad shite like Troma is ridiculous and an insult.
You telling me the movie "Boss Nigger" was meant to be in good taste?
Permalink Reply by Count Jackula on May 8, 2012 at 9:04am From Dusk Till Dawn is a deliberately bad film? A deliberate homage to bad cinema perhaps but to suggest it is deliberately bad?
Yes, it's deliberately bad. When you emulate something that's bad ON PURPOSE, that's called being deliberately bad.
Put another way, when you emulate something bad, you are imitating a bad thing, this creates another bad thing. It's called being deliberately bad.
It can take great effort and study to emulate something bad, to create something bad on purpose. You might even be quite skilled at making things bad in a deliberate way.
You might even do this with great purpose.
We might even appreciate the great skill it took, too make something that emulates something bad. But you're still making something bad, just on purpose.
Is that good?
I say, "No, it is not."
I say, it is GOODER
Permalink Reply by Lab Rat on May 8, 2012 at 4:22am I have to agree with Woosp here. I'd really like to see a few of these 'purposefully crap' movie that are so good. You mention Williamson's repertoire consisting of some half of these. I'd suppose you can pull a few from there.
Maybe a clearer definition of purposefully crap might help as well.
Permalink Reply by Count Jackula on May 8, 2012 at 6:13am Dude, I made all the videos I posted in this thread to explain the idea of a "Gooder" movie. I hope you aren't implying that you can't comprehend the basic concept.
Permalink Reply by Lab Rat on May 8, 2012 at 7:37am I understand your "concept"". What I don't understand is your implication that the makers of these films had the intention of reaching this mythical critical mass of awfulness.
Is that what you're saying? They look for a bad script, lousy actors, and an inept crew; thinking, "if we Bowfinger the hell out of this film people will like it". Movies like From Dusk Till Dawn or Hobo With a Shotgun are attempts to play on elements from low budget exploitative movies that some considered bad but even they weren't attempts at making a bad film.
Or is being a bad movie about not being in good taste? You mention Boss Nigger as an example of bad taste. First, I don't agree with this estimation in the least and I'd also throw in that it's not even a poor film in general.

STOP RIGHT THERE YOU'VE STRUCK OIL! You have just made the claim that a movie called "Boss Nigger" was done in good taste.
That will amuse me for days!
Even if it was written by Jane Austin, no story titled "Boss Nigger" could be considered to be in good taste.
Permalink Reply by Lab Rat on May 8, 2012 at 9:21am Right... I suppose that's because it contains the N word. Do you know the meaning of the term boss nigger? Have you even seen the movie? I guess you would say that the movies of the Dollars trilogy were examples of bad taste? Or Bud Spencer and Terence Hill films.
I'm starting to wonder just how many bad movies you've actually seen. You're like some Bizarro Andrew C.
