The Avengers and Black Panther
I was talking about the Avengers with my buddy, and I was explaining how it was a combination of all the different heroes from Marvel. I mentioned that Edgar Wrights "Antman" might be set in the same universe, and he asked about the other heroes that might be included in sequels. I said that the Black Panther would be a cool choice, but upon doing so, an issue popped into my head.
Now, I'll admit I know very little about the Black Panther. I'm only familiar with him from Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and he doesn't have a massive role. But I'm to understand he's the prince of a micro-nation that has advanced beyond the rest of the world due to it's access to a miracle element called Vibranium. They keep to themselves, and by law don't interact with the outside world.
But, my issue is, would audiences react well to the idea of there being a super-advanced community of people in Africa, that aren't doing anything about all the suffering in Africa?
Now, maybe this isn't as big a problem as I think it is. I'm not sure exactly what percentage of Africa is suffering and how much is fine. But regardless, it was the initial question I asked myself when considering a live action movie.
Do you think the movie could get along just fine without acknowledging this real-world truth? And if not, would it be a plot point the film would have to confront as part of the stpry?

Well its a little more complicated then that CQ. Wakanda is supposed to have very rocky relations with its neighbors. In its entire history it has repelled every attacking force that has tried to enter their borders; The Zulu's, South Africans, The Nazis, Captain America & The Invaders, and even to Dr. Doom.
I personally would like to see an African nation that was able to advance w/o western influence. If you haven't seen it the Black Panther motion comic series it does a good job of distilling the finer points of the Wakanda/Panther history.
As to why wouldn't Wakanda help the rest of Africa, would you help someone that was constantly trying to invade you. In the BP series they even address why they don't share their technology. They believe that other nations haven't reached the same point of spiritual enlightenment, that if they really cared about their people they would develop technology to help themselves not hurt someone else.
I like the Black Panther and if he isn't in the first Avengers movie I hope he shows up in a sequel. While Antman & The Wasp are good characters, I don't think they are gonna go into the whole domestic violence thing on the screen. But with the Panther we can get that whole geo political angle, that makes for lots of action.

Black Panther was not an original Avenger (and yes neither was Cap), but as Cap has been an Avenger almost since the day he was found by them, while T'Challa has only been an occasional member I think that they might skip on him for now. It would make more sense to put Luke Cage in the group nowadays.
Now would I like tyo see a live-action Black Panther film? FUCKING HELL YES!!!!!

Cheers. That really helped clear some stuff up.
And the series, well, the animation took a little getting used to, but overall it was pretty damn sweet.
Klaww was so much more villainous and threatening than he was is Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and the whole political angle you talked about was handled really well.
Definitely hope The Black Panther gets his own movie now.
As for Antman and Wasp, I dunno about the domestic issues. I mean, Edgar wright has always been one for handling relationships in stories well. Tim and Daisy. Ramona and Scott. But it's always focused more around emotional dispute, and I don't know whether or not he would opt for something as edgy as physical abuse.
He said he's going for more of a "secret agent" "sci-fi" theme with comedic undertones, and he hasn't even said whether or not Janet is in the movie yet.
Still, I would prefer their relationship problems to be more argumentative than violent. It's more relatable that way. I definitely preferred Earth's... EMHs portrayal of their relationship over the Ultimate movies. Ultimate Pym was just a self-righteous ass who didn't appreciate all the love and support Janet gave him, while in EMH, well, he just had a stick up his butt, and didn't wasn't as openly affectionate or adventurous as Janet.
Still here's hoping that Edgar's Antman makes it into the continuity.@Gift of the Magi
I guess he is more independant from the group what with his royal duties and all.
If he had his own movie it would make sense for him to only be a temporary member in Avengers 2 or something.
As for Luke Cage, it's not too far out of the question...

I would def like to see Luke Cage in the avengers but, only if its Terry Crews. This guy looks way too small to be Power Man. Maybe they can make Antman cool but I don't know. If your gonna make espionage movie with comedy undertones Black Widow would do better. Then again I love Edgar Wright and maybe he is the only one that I would trust with an Antman movie.

If they were to go live action with Black panther as much as I wouldn't like it, they'd probably just have him be in charge of a moderately civilized nation and take all the tech out of the equation taking care of such questions and loose plot threads that might come up.
How well would people react to it? This all depends on what the focus of the movie is on. If they put alot of ethnic cleansing and blood diamond issues into the plot then yeah BP will probably seem like a bastard. However they could have a story contained within their own country and mostly avoid those types of things using BP's actual comic storyline to write the script.

Black Panther would do better as a stand alone film, with maybe a Fury cameo to hint at a future tie-up. In the current films, I see him more as an ally then a member.
I also see Wakanda portrayed as a modern African paradise, with lots of hints of advanced tech...the stuff SHIELD would keep to themselves but here everyone would have access to. This film COULD show Africa as more than a place overrun with war, pirates and famine...but that some parts ARE modern and prosperous. T'Challa is a smart and capable hero, like a cross between Batman and Wolverine in temperment, because he is not afraid to permanently END a threat (ie kill them), and can outthink them as well. He is often portrayed as a bit older than most heroes too, so you are not limited to actors in their 20s.

im sorry but i really think you need black panther in the avengers he plays just as important of a role as hawkeye in my opinion. I also think the movie would have more action skilled theme to it as black panther has his own style of parkour and freerunning
