If it's crap... We'll tell you

Hello Everyone and Anyone,

Plot holes and poor logic really ruins a movie. But with T.S., I was able to account for everything in the plot using explanations that aren't explicitly given but aren't discounted so far.

The format of this post is a plot hole is given then a potential explanation and then the explanation of the explanation.

Please leave comments and I have ideas for the next installment let me know if you all want that posted.

# 1

Kyle Reese is Jon Connor's Father yet born in the Future.

Kyle Reese (KR) was Originally sent back by a man named Jon Connor (JC) but was not his son.

Original JC sends his best man, KR, into the past to protect his mother without the knowledge that he will get his mother pregnant. This in addition to telling her how her only son will be named Jon and save humanity and the physical evidence of the Terminator causes her to raise her son with this in mind for his future.

# 2

Marcus Wright is more advanced than the T - 800, but was made by cyberdine pre-Skynet

Skynet is not completely in control of all the pre-WAR resources of Cyberdine, as you might imagine after Nuclear Warfare. Much of the Research and Development for Skynet's Arsenal was already done, but access was limited and incomplete ie Time Travel.

Marcus was complete but not online during the war and more sophisticated than Skynet could make. But with this one model it imparts a mission.

# 3

The HK does not destroy Marcus in the Tow Truck only prevents his escape.

At some point he is identified by the HK and obviously Skynets has given the order not to terminate him.

# 4

Kyle Reese is not immediately killed by Skynet once he is identified in a plan to lure Jon Connor in, even though killing Kyle would have the same outcome.

Skynet does not know Time Travel is a possibility see # 2 and only knows Jon is its main adversary in the present and the guy on the radio who has likely mentioned he is searching for Kyle Reese. Even when Skynet learns Jon Connor's father's name when Marcus plugs in this is illogical and assumes this is another Kyle Reese there were 6 billion humans. Why would it send a Terminator in the past to kill Sara Connor knowing the man sent to protect her would be his father?

# 5

Marcus Wright does not kill Jon Connor the moment he identifies him.

Skynet does not control Marcus Wright, nor does he broadcast only record. Broadcasting would give him away and any interference by the CPU would ruin his belief he is human.

# 6

The T - 800 in TS is not as ruthless as the one The Terminator but instead throws Jon Connor around instead of crushing his windpipe.

Skynet is Fucking Bat Shit Crazy.

Unlike the Terminators in the past Skynet does not have a connection to them. Skynet, having an artifiial intelligence, acts vicariously through the Terminator and relishes the Kill of its greatest adversary.

Well wouldn't that contradict that the fact that Skynet and the Terminators are robotic and emotionless that was set by the first two movies? Relishing in someone's death is somewhat of an emotion.

I believe Skynet, is at least in part, capable of emotion. Skynet is not like the Terminators, artificial intelligence, it is "self aware", that is human like. But unlike a human its conscious can be spread over its machine army and is not limited to a single computer.

Jon in his speech is really trying to drum up the troops and whether or not Skynet has emotion its trying to kill them all.

My favorite plot whole...that is true for all terminator movies...why would Skynet make an "inflitration" robot that looks like a body builder? An average person doesn't look like that. You telling me that no one would be suspicious of a big ass emotionless body builder walking around?

(By the way...I think this is a great post. And Personally I loved Terminator Salvation)

That comes in explanantion #2, Skynet is using Cyberdine's original design, third movie established that, that was designed to be used by humans to be intimidating. At first or perhaps that is the only T-800 it is capable of making. Skynet at this point seems only capable of going off of cyberdine's R and D.

MetalVirgin, James Cameron stated in interviews that the original idea of the terminator was supposed to be average sized. Lance henriksen was originally cast as the Terminator. But, after meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger, I guess he changed his mind, hehehe.

You watch that interview on The Terminator Special Edition DVD.

You know, when a movie is about time traveling robots trying to kill Chekov while his 30 year old son is fighting CG Austrian robots, I stop caring about plot holes.

Just Saying.

True but I think the movie is more rewarding when it doesn't have them. And when I'm trying to enjoy robots fighting each other its ruined when in the back of my mind I'm going "what about this, and this and that?" I just can't silence it, that's me though.

ok 1: are you saying just a man named jon conor sent kyle back to be THE jon conors father?
2: marcus is the first kind of terminator they ever think about creating that is aparent at the begining of the movie considering where it is coming from and the time. now you say they didnt have the means to go through with it but sure enough there he was.

now for my view 1:if kyle is sent back to ensure a jon conor excists just for the name sake, why? it seems skynet sends a terminator to kill sarah to make sure a jon conor does not excist. the bigest thing to me is how is kyle the father? science fictionaly even it is imposible. no matter how you look at it. jon would never be around to tell anyone in the future to go back and become a dad. just not posible on any level. however here is a thought, what if sarah is already pregnant? and kyle realy is sent back just to protect her. now jon thinks that kyle is his father cause sarah tells him that cause she thinks he is. now the question is why is kyle a target if he isnt even the father, because kyle still influences sarah and gives her valuble info.

another paradox is which came first? kyle or the terminator? and i am not talking about literaly in the movie i am speaking of who was sent and why? i beleive it is stated that kyle is there to protect her from the terminator meaning that jon is already a bad ass and has won the war... but wait! how is he a bad ass if no one influenced him or gave him info? the answer is... the next movie when instead of taking place in the year where kyle is sent back it takes place in the reality of the unaltered future showing how sarah goes to mexico with her friends there to raise jon cause she has no help in the states. while there jon and sarah learn the basics of fighting and war and when judgement day hapens jon manages to get to saftey and through his sheer inginuity and with the element of surprise they are able to defeat the machines causing skynet to send a terminator back in time which causes jonto send kyle back and before you ask why jon doesnt just go back its as simple as him not risking seeing himself which we all know is a big no no in any time travel story.
also if you are wondering and thinking jon would still be to young for all of that keep in mind judgement day probably wouldnt hapen unti 2018 or later even but when a terminator is sent back it causes things to speed up a bit. not just judgement day but jons maturity too.

and then in the last movie in the end there can be several posible endings jon has to choose to stop the terminator from going back which inturn would make it pointless to send kyle back thus making it where jon wouldnt be born but he is willing to make that sacrifice or he could try to send kyle back first to destroy the terminator before it makes contact with sarah and he still ends up with her so jon could be born to work with the suposed way it is (which i completly disagree with) or the shocker ending where he stops the time travel but doesnt disapear and maybe even his real father makes an apearance. anyways thats how it is sory to ruin it for everyone but i just couldnt handle it anymore thanks.

Uh, yes there is a GLARING plot-hole (or lack of logic)

Reese specifically states that the HK's (Hunter-Killers) hunt at night due to their use of Infra-red vision.....
Yet, he's sitting BY A CAMPFIRE WITH the last 3 "known humans" in L.A. placing all sorts of HEAT to be tracked by.

The same HK's that are incapable of seeing the BONFIRE that Marcus and chick share during the night must obviously NOT produce enough heat to be seen from miles away with Infra-red vision because she can't feel heat off that said bonfire THREE FEET from the flames.

Of course, none of this matter when Conner blows up a couple of cars to start a fire that has a HK fly by it within 15sec of being started.

Obviously there are some issues involved with "logic". Yet, I think that one of the biggest ones you missed to clarify was the "General" when Conner was the supposed "leader".
Personally, I think that is easily explained by the fact that for the most part the "EARLY" part of the "resistance" was lead by a more "military style" operation. Notice the HUGE amounts of firepower and armor still available. It's not until LATER that Conner becomes more than just the "voice of the resistance" and actually becomes it's "Leader" in practice during the "later stages" when humans were fighting a more "Gorilla warfare" type battle.

As far as your points.
1) Reese VOLUNTEERED for the travel in T1, he wasn't "ordered" to go. He wanted to meet the "legend" that was Conner's mother, and loved her from just her photograph.
2) Marcus is the "Proto-type" that would eventually BECOME the T-100. While that means some aspects were 'Advanced" due to his "Human aspects", the end product of the T-100 was more advanced in other ways.
3) Not sure about that. Think that his ability to survive due to his "advancements" helped more than any 'planning' with the Tow-truck. Granted later on, he is identified and cleared to enter Skynet, but not at the "tow truck" part.
4) Agreed that Reese was pure "Bait". Notice that the cell that Conner identified as "Reese's cell" actually held a T-100, and not Reese.
5) Marcus doesn't kill him, because his orders weren't to kill Conner, but instead to see if it's possible to be ACCEPTED by humans. The computer TOLD him that knowing the truth of his own existence would jeopardize his ability to infiltrate the Resistance.
6) Conner was specifically trained how to fight the T-100 series. Skynet (not knowing this) was over confident in the first confrontation, and didn't provide the T-100 with any weapons to fight, instead assuming that the creation would be enough. Remember, at this point Skynet has no knowledge of the Time-travel that has happened in Conner/Reese future.

Maybe I blacked out during this part of the movie or something, but I was wondering. How did Skynet find the Resistance's base/Submarine?

Reply to This

The "Secondary signal" was actually a trap placed by Skynet to make the humans give away their location. The HK that attacked the sub was able to track the signal back to it's broadcasting source and destroy it.
