If it's crap... We'll tell you

Superman died and even that couldn't save him. He's washed up. Superman returns sucked like a Hoover. Every movie has Lex Luthor ( is that misspelled?) he doesn't do shit. Superman has all these powers but no one to use them on. He has no villain to just wail on for two comics then come back to do it again. Doomsday's OK but not that interesting.

The Christopher Reeves movies did well because no one made any other heroes we have mavel with spider-man, Iron Man, and The avengers. We all know DC has a mush better hero to look up to.

It's a daunting job to be an apologist for the Man of Steel, even though I admit I'm a bit partial to Batman. But then this raises an interesting point:

Every time we get into a discussion about Superman, we have to drag Batman into the conversation, too. As if it's almost every Superman haters' default argument over why they dislike the Godfather of Superheroes. Why have we totally shafted other members from the Justice League (like Barry Allen/Flash or Hal Jordan/Green Lantern)? Do we ignore other people within the DC Universe because if they don't have a movie for said superheroes, why bother bringing them up? That seems to me what it all boils down to: if they have a movie, they're in the arena of discussion, but if not, they can piss off!

Bust since we have to play that little game, here's an interesting fact: Batman Begins is for all intents and purposes a great film that did reignite interests, but it did not do gang busters at the Box Office during its initial run. However, it was Superman Returns (despite its issues) that did better at the Box Office. And that's a tribute to the fact that Superman is still indeed relevant to movie goers, because no matter how many of you on here think he's not great, people will go out and spend money to see him.

True but people like batman begins more
I think the reason that it's just the superheroes with movie is that not everybody reads comics religiously like me or possibly you so they relay more heavily on the movie. Personally I grew up a Marvelite but was always drawn to the grittier batman stories. I did Batman as an example because he is second in DC's line up to superman and would be and easier reference than red tornado

all true, but it's the characters that have kept superman going for so long.

no it's that nobody has the balls to cut or redo him I hate Lois and Jimmy

just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean it's an automatic failure.

i think his character is perfectly fine as he is. his name is SUPERman. he has to be virtually invincible. and you can't just redo a character. it has nothing to do with balls. it has to be approved, and obviously no one has come up with a satisfactory idea.

Look,

Just read Action 775 & you will see how & why Big Blue is still relevant & why he acts as he does.

Then pick up "Last Son" & keep reading from there. I can't make you understand why Superman is good & has a long lasting appeal, you have to discover that for yourself. Superman's restraint exists for a reason, if you go deep & really examine the character, you might get it. There are many books on the evolution & psychology of super-heroes & their audience, read up on that & you might see Superman different. & no, I don't think I'm ducking the question, I'm not going to bother challenging your opinions, you've obviously made them. What I am going to do is implore you to challenge your own assessment, maybe you will come to the same conclusion that you are already at, but at the very least you might begin to understand where some of us are coming from.

Who the fuck are you and what are you talking about

Superman is awesome when written right. The first two movies rock, and I personally liked Returns. I do agree, he needs a huge budget so he can finally fight someone of power, like Doomsday, Darkseid, Metallo, etc.

that's all I'm really asking for is a movie I can get behind right now

Metallo is almost the perfect foil to Superman: A life of wealth and luxury through ill-gotten gains cut short when his humanity was taken from him vs. a being who was never quite human trying to pass as such and who was raised by humble farmers. Add to this that he is literally fueled by Superman's one (not really) weakness, and write a goddamn story!
