As a Batman fan i'm more than pleased with Arkham Asylum and City. As a Spiderman fan i'm happy with plenty of Spiderman games but i'm a Superman fan as well. What do you guys think is necessary, be thorough, to make a good Superman game. Should Rocksteady even do it or should another company?

Rocksteady could pull this off.It would be nice to see kickass Superman game.I think sticking to the origins of the first movie would be right way.Lex luthor or general zod would probably be great choices for villains.I am still thinking it should be open world game like Spiderman 2.Or maybe Beenox would be good choice, shattered dimensions was an interesting take on spiderman brand.

Hell Yeah!

I think that Rocksteady could pull it off, but I think that they should focus on their next Batman game first. It would be interesting to see what they would do though. I've kinda lost faith in the idea of a Superman game, Superman Returns broke my spirit.

Yeah I agree

I'm not even the biggest "Sooperman" fan but hopefully Man of Steel can re-introduce Superman to the world and hopefully get DC to step their game up with their other characters namely Wonder Woman and Green Lantern...

I think it should take hints from Smallville and the NEW 52 action Comics where it kind of starts out with him at a lesser level or begining to use his powers, Not superman but almost.

"son of wolverine" might be on to something.

personally, if Rocksteady or whoever decided to make a Superman game, the action/rpg route might be a good idea. The player could start out with a young Clark Kent and build up his powers accordingly (i.e. spending points on defense, offense, energy projection, durability etc...). Maybe the player can "build" their own versions of Superman and eventually have him throwdown against the likes of Zod, Lex, Metallo, Lobo, Parasite, Brainiac etc...But honestly I don't know, I just hope that if there is a Superman game the player should be able to fly into space...

I'm not sure exactly what you would need to do to make it as fun as Rocksteady's Arkham games, because Sups is SO powerful that you would just mow everyone down, but I do think a team of people with WAY more creativity than I have could pull it off.

This abandoned game from Factor Five looked like they were going down the right path, but unfortunately the game didn't make it to release.

All these ideas are great and that game footage was awesome. There also needs to be a mode called "Expected Superman" or something where pretty much the game starts, Lex Luther runs towards you, you punch him, the universe explodes and it says you beat the game.

I think the problem with superman is that he's so powerful. So you have to not only balance his powers in a way that the interface/controls isn't a clusterfuck, but you have to have an opposition that's actually threatening (even though games are easier now a days, no one likes a walk in the park). My solution? Take a que from The Shadow of  The Colossus and Majora's Mask, but amp up the difficulty.

What to use from The Shadow of The Colossus:
Don't task the player with defeating droves of smaller enemies....it would only feel like a waste of time. In fact, skip regular foes all together. Instead, make the whole game a series of epic boss battles set in the city of Metropolis, something that truly tests the power of Superman and the skill of the player. Perhaps these threats could roam/rampage around the open world of the city, and even retreat at points in order to prolong their survival.

What to use from Majora's Mask:*
The theme of the threat of time. Drive home the feeling that you not only have to save the day, but quickly as well. Perhaps the city's "health" is always on display and it's constantly getting lower and lower. Taking too long with one boss could mean trouble for the rest of the city. Have the entire game set in one single day. Further the theme by having Superman's outfit become tattered and battle scarred throughout the course of the game. By the time you get to the final boss you should feel like you've actually been through a serious gauntlet, and that the fight to get to that point has been taxing on both you and the city. Maybe times can be clocked upon completion of the campaign and shared to an online scoreboard to show just how good of a hero you were.
*I've only read about Majora's Mask and have never played it myself. I do know the story of the moon crashing down to the world in a span of three days. If I'm misunderstanding the theme of the game in any way feel free to call me on my bullshit, I just needed an example that dealt with the theme of time.

Further Suggestions:
This may seem like an odd suggestion but make it almost unforgiving in difficulty. Give players the control of a fully powered Superman from the start, but challenge them to use those powers with discretion and cunning. Using laser vision to blast around all crazy without any restraint would only further damage the city you're trying to protect so the game should penalize you in some way for it. Superman is basically a God and having that much power but restraining himself in a way that doesn't harm the city or its citizens is a serious challenge to the character, and I think it would pose a worthwhile challenge to the player in addition to really connecting with what it's like to be the man of steel. (And if a player does get carried away with their powers and starts to destroy the city I think Batman should step in and kill you for a game over cinematic)

Also, have the enemies be a legitimate threat in that they're not only powerful, but battle savvy as well. Perhaps after initial encounters they can retreat, learn from how the player fought, then reemerge later on in the game with a way to counter or evade the tactics that the player used before. Thus, the game isn't simply about pushing the attack button over and over, but trying to use your powers in a way that you're forced to overcome your enemy by outsmarting and outmaneuvering them.

Long Story Short:
Only large scale boss battles with smart enemies + The looming threat of time and city destruction + The challenge of using your powers with restraint = In my opinion a good Superman game

to be honest i dont want a challenging game because superman needs to be badass,i mean you need to feel like a superhero,i think that this game should be with combat from arkham city and origins story. It would be cool with boss battles like against darkseid or lex luthor.
