eric's back posted a statusI have been around for several years but have never attended Spill Dot Con. I was wondering if any of the veteran con attendees could give me some tips. I am heading off to a university next year and am currently in college so I don't have a lot of disposable income.
Are there any cheap but good hotels near the con area?
What are some of the recommended forms of transportation I should take? I live in Oregon.

Im gonna get a room at a motel, but if you want to spend less, how about a hostel?

There are a lot of decently priced hotels in the area. Basically, you'll want to find something that's somewhere by downtown (where most of the parties will be in the evenings) and the Marchesa theater (where we'll be doing a lot of the day events at). I'm sure someone will start a group soon for the Con, so you might want to keep looking for that because a lot of times people will be looking to go in on a hotel room together and carpool, etc.
As for getting around, there's your basic public transportation (buses, a metro rail) and the usual assortment of taxis and stuff. Some people will group up and chip in for a rental car. Basically, the best tip I can give you is to start chatting up everyone else who is going and see what you can work out. These are the people you'll be partying with for 3+ days, might as well start getting to know them early.
