Spartacus - Blood & Sand: what's your first impressions?

After seeing the first episode, what's your first impressions?

I kinda felt that on many levels, it was inspiring itself too much from "300" 's visual style (the comic book narration brought to TV) but some of the bloody effects were way to exaggerated. Heck, Spartacus was bathing in (comic book) blood by the end of the episode.

Personally, Spartacus' first episode is a bit like comfort food ... very very familiar but satisfying. I guess I also had a void for series based on ancient roman times after "Rome" - the series ended but for now "Rome" is way higher on my list. We'll see if that changes...

You can't deny it... It's 300: The Mini-Series.
Yeap, blood, sex, more blood, and more sex, and there's a new episode every week. You hit the nail on the head
damn right! Although, so far the only thing I'm not really a fan of is male frontal nudity ... especially when it comes with a 5 min. monologue boosting his (gladiator) crew in front of a bunch of guys in underwear :)
chicks like seeing sweaty naked dudes just as much as we like seeing sweaty naked chicks. So unless your a homophobe chill the heck out.
take it easy Q, I'm allowed to not be a fan of male frontal nudity.
It really is, but that's why I like it so much. I think it's like why some people still enjoy Smallville, it just has something about it that makes it enjoyable. Only this is actually good TV.
it looks so beautiful, but the dialogue is so bad i feel embarrassed for the actors (they look like theyre doing the best they can, though).

fight, sex, bad dialogue, repeat.
After seeing more less 10 episodes of it, even though the dialogue isn't very crafty but the plot twists are great. I love it and I hope there's a second season.

Do you think, the rebellion is going to happen before the end of the first season ?
Lets face it: the first episode was awful. The sex was was too over-the-top, the action got repetitive and it was unintentionally funny. Surprisingly, the show has gotten getter with each episode. The characters are surprisingly complex, the plot is interesting, and it pulls no punches. Any show that shows Lucy Lawless nude is OK in my book.
agreed. rocky start, but has grown into a decent show.
I put it in the same category as Fringe in that for me it is a show that I like but for some reason I have no interest in watching it when left to my own devices. There's no hook that brings me back every week. I don't really care about the characters yet so I feel no impetus to follow the show.

It'll probably end up being long weekend/seasonal lull material, Something i burn through really fast and enjoy but don't feel the need to watch every week. Just like I was with Smallville
@Laslo Piniflex
HOW dare you compare it to Smallville??? Superman is emo - in that piece of shit made for the audience as Twight, it just drags along without action or storyline! Spartacus is more deep, it's about struggle and revenge in all of its complexity.

I totally agree with the question, questionable start but it's some great TV building up to an epic finale.

And yes, there will be a second season.
