Jonathan AKA JodeneSparks posted a statusI've seen quite a few people declare someone's artwork bad,not because it was poorly made or sloppy, because it was either considered "fetish art",controversial,or something they simply didn't like what the picture was of. Is this fair judgement to think, even though someone put their hard work into whatever they drew/painted/edited/whatever'd,that just because it's of a subject not everyone approves of it's automatically fair to call the artwork "bad?"
I'd really like to know how others feel about this.
Permalink Reply by Jason Straub on January 13, 2012 at 12:10pm I think the problem you're seeing stems more from people not grasping that it's possible not to like good art. They're really two separate criteria. For example, I can like a poorly picture because it has a subject that I like, for example robots, but I still understand that it is not good art. On the other hand, I understand and recognize Led Zepplin's music as being good, and how it influenced the music that came after it, but I don't like listening to it. I think part of being mentally mature is being able to distinguish that difference.
