Well, by the way Steven Moffat has been going with the new series, he's been hinting to the audience that some people do call him by his "real" name, and that he'll probably reveal The Doctor's name.... or probably not.

But if he does reveal it, it'll probably ruin everything the series has built up, and the show wouldn't be called "Doctor Who" anymore, because we actually don't have to ask that question anymore.

So, what do you think ? Should he, or shouldn't he ?

No. There's no real need to suddenly out of the blue give The Doctor a name.
Wha...why? NO!
Moffat would be a fool to do that. It would be Sylvester Stallone's Judge Dredd incident all over again.
It's a HORRIBLE idea. When you consider that there have been several cases of "Galifreian" names already used.....

Romona, Borusa, Flavia, Rassilon..... just to use a few from a single storyline.

It's clear that if you are going to reveal his "real name", that it's going to be something NON-Earth in origin, so no Bob, David, John, Mark...etc,etc. It's going to have to be something strange and odd, which just wouldn't work.
I really can't see it happening, and a good thing too.

Still, it is a bit weird that no Time Lord has ever addressed the Doctor by his real name during the series. They must know what what it is.
You know I think if they did it on the very last episode when the doctor's used up all of his regenerations on like a final death bed scene when he's found the woman he loves, River Song (which personally I think should be after another regeneration cos if she starts getting with him now she just looks like she's cradle robbing, anyway she said Tennant was young), and he's saved the world from the final villian or whatever just as a nod to fans that this shit's over, I'd be cool with that.
The main problem is what would it be? It would be almost impossable to live up to the hype. I'm just hoping that it wouldn't be some religious refference like Adam or some shit.
It'd be funny if he was called Jeff or Bob, something really unassuming. That'd probably be the only way I wouldn't have a problem with it.
You could set it up like:
Assistant: "Jeff?!... your name is Jeff?"
Doctor: "Yeah. Everyone took the piss out of me on Galifrey because my name was really bland. I mean who's ever heard of a time traveler called Jeff? really?! I hated my parents for that one."
Assistant: "So why call yourself the Doctor?"
Doctor: "Well it conjures up mystery doesn't it. People would be like 'oooo who's that dangerous, mysterious man he's so swarve I think I'll blow him' nobody blows dudes called Jeff... universal fact that is. Worst bit is you haven't even heard my surname."
Assistant: "what is it?"
Doctor: "Perkins"
Assistant: "PERKINS?!... YOU'RE JEFF PERKINS TIME TRAVELING SAVIOUR OF EARTH?!"
Doctor: "See told you. Still wanna blow me?"
Assistant: "Not really, no"
Doctor: "Fair enough"

Or at least that's what I imagine.
I've watched only a few episodes, and even I know that's a bad idea.

And I know a few people that will go into a mindless rage. Bad idea.
His names Brian
You know, I'm yanking EVERYONE'S Doctor Who fan club card right now!

THEY ALREADY REVEALED HIS NAME DECADES AGO!

Yes, yes they did, stop denying it. During the Key to Time series, not the very last episode of it, The Doctor (Tom Baker) runs into an old school mate of his from Gallifrey...who calls him BY HIS REAL NAME!

Look, I'll make it easier on you. The episode is called The Armageddon Factor, Part 5. The Doctor runs into an old classmate from Gallifrey named Drax. Go look it up, it's a little less than halfway through part 5.

This was in 1979, but strangely most people have forgotten it by now....sad.
Just checked it out, and you're right. I'm going to have to re-watch some of the later Tom Baker stories (before they got really bad), I don't remember any of this at all.
You mean "Thete"?. That was just an alias. Is short for Theta Sigma.
