Everyone keeps bitching, talking about "omg they r remaking evrything!!!11! why?!!1!!?1", so I'd like some of you guys to try and discuss the remakes you thought were better than the original.

For me it's gotta be Peter Jackson's King Kong, and not just because of the big special effects, even though those helped. I've seen both movies, and the remake just has much more than the original in terms of substance. In the original, there was no reason to care for the characters, if you could call them characters. They were basically there so that there was a reason for people the audience can relate to can meet Kong. In the remake, the love story is fleshed out, and the Jack Black character's greed was a major part of the story. Even the side characters were given more personality than the original, and you cared when some of them were killed.

Even King Kong is interesting in the movie. He has real feelings, despite being a CG character, he seems like a real giant monkey that can kill dinosaurs. Plus, the creature designs is worlds better than the original, and the fight scenes were pretty cool and imaginative.

Also, I liked the 1987 Little Shop of Horrors better than the old one(which was crap).

I can see where you are coming from, I havent seen the original in ages though.
I'd have to go with Carlyle's Man On Fire

i didn't know this was a remake. Man of Fire was great
I didn't either till Carlyle brought it up in ACOCO
ocean eleven kicks the shit outta the original
HOw is the Dark Knight a remake?
I don't think it counts....

The stories were completely different save for very few of the characters involved.
Best Remake EVER made....

Ben-Hur
That's just a myth about Ben-Hur.
I really loved the Halloween remake.
I thought that showing the downward spiral of Myers and the source of his mask made him a much more interesting creature. Even the simple change of showing him simply stalking people in broad daylight instead of always lurking offscreen sent shivers up my spine. It changed him from a generic boogieman into a terrifying and very disturbed person.

I thought Rob Zombie did a spectacular job of it.
