That Guy Jv posted a statusRed Riding Hood, the new big screen adaptation of the age old fairy tale, is set for release on April 15th next year and follows the story of a young girl who falls for an orphaned woodcutter all the while living in a medieval village under threat by a werewolf.
When first hearing the title Red Riding Hood and seeing the cover art you wouldn't be amiss in thinking that this was going to be the dark, grown up retelling of the Grimm fairy tale that many people have hoped for, for a while now. But oh how wrong you are, which is spelled out for you in no uncertain terms as you watch the new teaser trailer. That's right they might as well of tattooed ANGST! on your eyeballs because that's what this films got in spades and is totally unabashed about telling you exactly that, proudly proclaiming "From the director of Twilight". I can hear the sound of fancy dress shop tills ringing which quite aptly harmoniously resonates with the sound my rifle makes when it reloads.
Another thing this film has is Style, with a capital S, although style pretty much amounts to "what looks good with red?... erm snow?" as little Red sports a ridiculously oversized and unwieldy cape and everyone looks like they've been in the salon for a good 8 hours before starting their day. A fun game I like to play is to take the average life expectancy for a person living in medieval Europe, 30, find out which actors are over that age and summarily dismiss them from the film for being dead, which would be doing Gary Oldman a favour.
So it's pretty easy to draw comparisons between this film and Twilight right off the bat. Seemingly crammed to the bit with teen angst and inappropriately chiselled werewolfy goodness it draws yet another connection to the aforementioned franchise in the director one Ms Cathrine Hardwicke, who of course directed the first Twilight film a cinematic master piece (in some parallel dimension, most likely where Satan rules over all of us).
So what are your thoughts?.... excited... weary. Or are you, like me, going out to find your 2011 crows nest early this year?

Permalink Reply by James! on December 12, 2010 at 12:01pm Eugh... I saw the pretty cool picture for this on the Apple trailers site so I clicked through; what a disappointment!
It looks like another angst-ridden tweenage load of cack.

Yeah, not looking for much in this. This is certainly just a cop-out from Hardwicke, but the kids will just eat it up like chocolate ice cream with sprinkles.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer, it looks like Red Riding Bella.
"I love you!"
"I'm a monster."
"I don't care!"
It almost feels like Hardwicke's starting to get pigeon holed. And fast. And to be fair, Twilight didn't exactly have the best source material, y'know. What is Seyfried even going in this? She's better than this, I know she is.
