Permalink Reply by LunaticLMD on June 30, 2012 at 12:52am Pariah, only know of the movie because Leon said good things about it. I watched the movie and found it quite enjoyable. I would liked to know more about the husband and wife's relationship, but oh well.
High Matinee
Goodfellas, saw this movie for the first time and, after a great intro, I was worried toward the hour mark, but this was another good movie too.
Low Full Price.

Who in hell thought it was a good idea to cast Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker and Winona Ryder as Mina Harker!? They were among of my favorite characters in the book and i could barely stand them here, they nearly ruined the movie for me. And their fake accents were terrible, I'm pretty sure at one point Keanu looses the accent for a few seconds. Also at first i was not super happy about the fact that they extrapolated the romance between Mina and Dracula but it kinda worked (only "kinda" because Winona was terrible and wasn't really selling it. Especially next to Gary Oldman). But overall it's a really good movie and it's visually stunning, really gorgeous to look at. And Gary Oldman was fiiiine as hell in this!

Permalink Reply by Zulzon on July 1, 2012 at 12:01pm Well, probably the main problem for me was that I hadn't read the book. I can't say that I don't like post-apocalyptic films. I am Legend, Titan A.E. are just some examples that come to mind, and I had no problem with those. Although you can't really compare Titan A.E. with either The Road or I am Legend.
I thought the path that The Road took was too much like a zombie film. And maybe I was just not in the mood then for a film that really shows you how hope can disperse. Also I didn't like the acting so much. It felt to me like Mortensen gave it his best, but still not enough to get me attached to his character. I wish I could say more but I really don't remember that much. I only saw the film once when it came out 3 years ago.
But I admit that concerning my opinion about this film, I am in the absolute minority.

Nobody makes movies in quite the same way as Wes Anderson, and if you like his style of film making, you'll love this movie. For me, this is an easy full price, but I'd say that even those with an extreme aversion to quirk should check this one out; it has a lot of heart.
