Being The Dark Knight's first birthday, I decided to watch the film again. The more times I watch this movie, the more I appreciate it (which is saying a ton, considering how much I enjoyed it the first time around). I've never denied the weaknesses of the film, but I've also never had any qualms with giving it a 10/10.

Mikey & Nicky (1976, Directed by Elaine May.) = 8.8/10

This is, w/out a doubt in my mind, one of the single greatest & most inventive character-driven crime
pictures I've ever seen. Undertaken as something of a dark comedy from the outset, Elaine May adopts
an improvisational, near-verite' style in order to maintain the signature feel of Cassavetes' own unique,
independent style of direction. I was quite surprised to find that Ms. May also wrote the screenplay
to this wonderful film, as well. If I didn't know any better, I'd just have sooner assumed that John
had written the script himself. Or, that he & Peter Falk were simply playing off of one
another w/out any written dialogue to work from. Elaine May, not unlike Arthur Hiller,
was best known for helming screwball comedy flicks such as The Heartbreak Kid & A New Leaf.
Along w/ her career as an actress & well-known comedienne of the day. But, much like Hiller
was able to prove w/ films like The Man In The Glass Booth & The Americanization of Emily,
Elaine was able to demonstrate that she could more than hold her own w/ her male
contemporaries working in the bleak humor & crime drama genres, respectively.
I have no more superlatives w/ which to kiss this movie's ass.
So, I'll just end this now w/ a simple statement before I
make an even bigger schmuck out of myself.

If you have a best friend, the end of this film will move you.

Ever since the world-famous documentary "Bruce Almighty" came out in 2003, millions have recognized that Morgan Freeman is the greatest thing to ever happen. Everything he does is golden. The slimmest association of him with a movie guarantees it ...
