I surprised to see little to no discussion about it. The film will be filmed mostly in Texas by an Austin based studio. The spill crew should be able to get some inside info on this one. Rodriguez's old script has been updated for this reboot of the franchise set on a Predator inhabited planet. I'm a fan of the series and happy to get another Predator movie. I thought the last AVP movie had sunk the franchise for good.
Texas huh? Wonder what kind of movie this will be, that's not the jungle, and brings some interesting scenes to mind already, from some of the Dark Horse material.
This was insteresting enough to go hunting. No real info yet, but Rodriguez's script story is cool. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/07/robert-rodrigue...
I'm a big fan of the Aliens and Predator series, but I'm skeptical about this. For one thing, setting it in Texas makes me wonder what type of people will be hunted. I never really liked the idea of a Predator or Xenomorph being in a modern urban setting. I liked that in the first Predator film things were secluded and they had a mythic presence to them; they're something rarely seen and its hard to confirm their existence. I'd prefer things occurring in advanced timelines like in the far flung future or the Alien franchise. I dunno really, I'm just concerned.
The film is being shot in Texas, but the setting is supposed to be a Predator Home World. There is some sort of movie making tax break, or something like that, in Texas. Most Predator fans disliked (understatement) Rodriguez's original script and this movie is based on it. I'll wait and see. I'm just glad that there will be another movie.
The reason why they're filming more movies in Texas is because the state wants more publicity. A lot of recent movies have been flimed somewhere within Texas (300 was filmed in Autsin, for example)
But, I am glad to see that they're re-creating Predator, and the last AVP movie was fairly disappointing. It had sort of the same consept of the first AVP, except it was in a different setting.
What I would really want to see them re-create is the Alien series, and also Silence of the Lambs, since I am also huge fans of those movies as well.
Yet, I cant help but feel a slight bit of fear, because I dont know if they'll end up making it seem just as good as the classic, or completely ruining the concept that they set out to create. This seems to have been happening a lot recently, where they re-create classic films and make them so bad, it almost gives the classic a bad name.
Oh well. I'll give it a chance. :)
I'm excited for it, but a tad worried with the director. His only big movie is Vacancy, with Armored coming at the end of the year. He hasn't done big action, or sci-fi for that matter.
But look at Jon Favreau. The guy directed Elf, and gave us Iron Man.
