Permalink Reply by DJ Kento on April 30, 2013 at 2:57pm Heat has a realistic shoot out but I wouldn't call it the best. It was cool at the time because there was no sound, it was based on a real event and the noise they captured was real and very little work was done in post.
The Matrix fight scenes just steal everything they know from Chinese gun operas like those of John Woo. It's unoriginal.
The best fight scene I've ever seen was in Ip Man. The best shoot out I've ever seen was in Hard Boiled.

"... because there was no sound..." - No sound? What shootout did you see? Or hear? Or if your eyes have two senses like a couple of Spillios, what movie did you smell?
"... it was based on a real event..." - What "real event"? If you're referring to the North Hollywood shootings, those happened after the movie came out.
"... and the noise they captured was real and very little work was done in post." - Actually, there was very much work done in post, because the buildings of LA echoed the gunshots as if they were in a canyon. This rendered much of the sound recording in production useless (particularly after the first day of shooting that scene, when the city had to step in over concerned citizens and noise issues). I'm just gonna assume you didn't know a whole lot about what you were talking about here and move on.
Permalink Reply by DJ Kento on April 30, 2013 at 7:07pm I'm sorry you are correct. And I mean there was no score. I was just waking up when I wrote that and arguing with an idiot.
But I still think it's a lame shootout when compared to Hard Boiled, The Terminator police station shoot out, Road to Perdition, the end of LA Confidential, and while I hate it, the shoot out "IT WAS A FIRE FIGHT" scene in Boondock Saints...
I just feel like Heat's gun fight is slow, plodding, ends with the lamest characters dying and goes on a bit too long.
