If it's crap... We'll tell you

VS

Ok, the numbers are in and the movie goers have spoken. Saw VI has lost the fight. After years of crashing into the number No 1 spot the sixth instalment of the gory horror losses out to a film that is a lot more discreet in its horror delivery. Supernatural horror flick Paranormal Activity was made two years ago and only now does it get seen by more movie goers. But it’s now far succeeding the numbers anyone could have predicted. And the fact it out beat the “King of Halloween” is an even bigger surprise.

Paranormal made $22 million to Saw’s $14.8 million . Now I ask why? Was the reason that people once and for all are sick to death of a Saw film each year? Or maybe the “torture porn” era is now passé and this gorilla style/documentary style filming of horror is now the way forward for the genre? Maybe it was marketing? Or maybe Paranormal Activity was just a better film all round?

I'm saying it's a mixture of reason one and two. Saw is a series that really should ended back at three. For the simple fact you killed of you bad guy and unlike other horror franchises out there Jigsaw has no supernatural powers to come back to life.

Other reason is that I think we are ready to move on. The 90’s it was stalk n’ slash. The early 2000’s torture porn. Now maybe the numbers for these two films tell a story that we are ready to move on to different and intelligent new ground. If not that then just something different for the horror genre.

So what are your thoughts?

The reason is...people are starting to grow brain cells. It doesn't get much deeper than that...

Because there's actually a good horror movie out now. I saw it and it's one of my favorite films this year.

However, I've also heard Saw VI is not as bad as the previous films.

That's not really saying much, lol.

I wouldn't be surprise its backlash from people who hated Saw V

How much did Paranormal make when it was released commercially? Wasn't it like, 20 million? .

Yeah, I believe so.

So, am I the only one that's fucking stunned that it did this well, again?

Well people like that kind of stuff. The good old scary ghost so to speak.

I liked Paranormal Activity more than any Saw film I've seen. I hate the entire fucking series.

I think it's probably because people are getting tired of how stale the Saw franchise has become. Paranormal Activity is a film that not only does things differently from your average horror film, but is being heavily talked about by everyone. Of course PA is going to do better.

about time people realized those films were crap.
i would say it's also because of an overload of torture porn movies. went to blockbuster the other day, and the whole horror section was full of saw and cheap knockoffs.
let's hope it ends with 6!
