I’m sure more will come to me, but right off the top of my head:
In one of the very few Spider-Man comics I’ve read, Spidey actually gets killed by a guy. However, he later gets resurrected when it’s revealed that all those years ago when the radioactive spider bit him and gave him spider-like powers, he literally became half-man and half-spider. But apparently, Peter chose not to embrace his ‘spider half’ completely and only took the powers it offered. In order to be resurrected, however, he would need to accept his other half.
Another was the Horcruxes Voldemort made in the Harry Potter series. Splitting your soul into several pieces in order to become immortal was an amazing concept. It was also pretty much the only bit of magic that lived up to being ‘Dark Magic’, in my opinion.

Permalink Reply by Artie Fufkin on July 25, 2012 at 3:33am some 2000 years ago one of the biggest selling works of fiction was penned, it contained such wacky ideas as turning water into wine, healing the sick and lame, walking on water, raising the dead, the collection of 2 of each animals on a MASSIVE BOAT while the earth was covered in water, a talkng snake convincing adam and eve to eat an apple that was forbidden thus creating original sin the list goes on right up to the wacky fire and brimstone ending. the fascinating thing for me is that people believe this to be true.

I know JK Rowling took inspiration from a lot of sources for the series, but this was one thing that was totally original.
I loved the idea of wands choosing wizards instead of the other way around as well as the mysterious connection that needed to exist between the two. Oh, and the fact that Harry’s wand shares the same phoenix feather as Voldemort’s wand: AWESOME!

Permalink Reply by Steven Seagal on August 2, 2012 at 11:38am There was a short story called the Wall, this is within a collection of short stories called The Wall. but the plot from wiki is
The title refers to the wall used by firing squads to execute prisoners. The Wall itself symbolises the inevitability and unknowing of one's death. The protagonist, Pablo Ibbieta, along with two others in his cell, is sentenced to death. He is offered a way out if he reveals the location of his comrade, Ramón Gris. Pablo refuses to cooperate until just before his scheduled execution, when, seeing no harm in it, he gives the authorities what he believes to be false information on Ramón Gris' whereabouts. Ironically, it turns out that Ramón Gris has moved from his previous hiding place to the very spot where Pablo tells the authorities he may be found. Thus Ramón Gris is shot and Pablo's life is, at least temporarily, spared from death.
