If it's crap... We'll tell you

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090704/ap_on_re_as/as_nkorea_missile

Seriously you have a problem with the U.S celebrating Independence day? Their own holiday that no one said you have to celebrate? You fired missiles into the water, yeah that really scared the shit out of everyone. I know that not everyone in North Korea is like this.

Do you think that North Korea is annoying or do you think the U.S deserves this?

From what I've read, it seems like this is a whole domestic thing within North Korea to drum up public support for the next dictator, Kim Jong Un (Kim Jong Il's son)... to make him seem all badass or something.

No no, that's America.

it's north korea they like to show the world their "prowess". like any hard-line communist nation before it, North korea prides itself in its vast array of outdated militray equipment its a way of making themselves feel important. even though they know that using any of those missles on actual targets would be signing their own death warrant. it's kim-jong ill's attempt to show the world north korea will still be the stubborn, isolationist asshole in world politics even after he's gone and his son takes power.

You can't give out to them for following the American example.

more like the soviet example or any old communist nation. at least america wasn't designed to mobilize all its civillian and government resources specifically to wage war. no, modern america was designed to make its citizens greedy consumers and when it comes to foreign policy; america is anti-isolationist

America has switched between isolationist to 'world leader' more times it's like the entire nation has a bipolar disorder. America has been isolationist for large periods of time; most notably before and during the two World Wars. Both wars were viewed, in the U.S, as European wars and America should just keep to itself and keep its borders closed. Don't be surprised if, after the U.S pulls out of Iraq and Afghanistan, there's another switch back to isolationism. It's a pattern America has followed essentially since the American Civil War.

The nuke has also been the calling card of world powers. Five of the G8 nations, the leaders of the world, posses nuclear armaments and most have built their global power based on the WMDs. Logic says that in order to be taken seriously as a world power, even as a regional power, nuclear armaments are the best, quickest most efficient way. Take a look at India and Pakistan. When they start to get angry with eachother or any other nation, Presidents, Queens, Kings, Primeministers, all of them shut up and take notice because there's always the risk of a nuclear weapon being fired.

Another example of this attitude would be the development of China and India; both are becoming major industrial powers and are now looking to use fossil fuels to boost their economies. This however will destroy the remaining finite resources as combined the two nations account for over a third of the world's population. Not only would we be out of finite fuels, but there would also be detrimental damage done to the environment. Why do they do it? Because that's what has helped America, Britain, the E.U at large, become financial powerhouses.

i agree with nearly all your points but i was just pointing out that north korea isn't following america as a primary example it's following the hard-line communism. now that nuclear technology is easier to obtain it's LOGICAL for north korea, the most militarized state on earth to pursue a nuclesr program.

i replied to your comment because i don't like the whole "why is america always acting like such a bully in the world stage" mentality even though bush is no longer in office and we've pulled out of iraq. some people seem to forget that every world superpower has always looked to expand their influence globaly. look at the british and napoleonic empires during the 19th century or the soviet union and america during the cold war and even china is now a major international influence. so an anti-isolationist foreign policy which many interpret as "bullying" is something that always comes with a world superpower.

as long as america is an overall world powerhouse it will always be anti-isolationist.

I'm sorry, you've pulled out of Iraq? I must have missed that news bulletin. American troops have pulled out of fifteen cites in Iraq. Not the towns and villages, not all of the cities, not the countryside.

So what you're saying is that any anti-isolationist power, which wants to be taken seriously and spread its influence on a global scale, can have their intentions misinterpreted as bullying? Then can I not say the exact same thing about North Korea? They're not trying to bully anyone, they're not threatening anyone, they're just being misinterpreted in the same way American, Soviet, British, Napoleonic and Chinese Empires are and were? And if they were being truly isolationist they wouldn't be interacting with the world at the moment would they? But they are, so they're no longer isolationist.

there ARE quite a number of people i know that do misinterpret their actions as bullying so they have that attitude of "hate america" for reasons they don't truly know about, i live outside of the US so i get that alot. and my response to them is, like i said that all global superpowers throughout history have been constantly looking to spread their influence.

North Korea IS isolationist, launching missles on the 4th isn't an attempt to reach out and open dialogue with other nations. bieng isolationist means closing your doors and not opening formal dialogue with other nations. all north korea is doing is saying a big "fuck you! leave us alone and let us build our nukes!" they don't make any attempt to improve trade or diplomatic relations with any country. their society is even more islolationist, North korea doesn't allow any foreigner to enter its country unless said foreigner is only to be shown the "better" side of north korea. their people are not taught about foreign nations, they're doctrinated from birth that their only reason to live is to serve their nation. there is evidence that during the famine, north korean villagers would rather eat their children as oppose to revolt. and the thought that the government is going to open its doors wide open any time soon is ridiculous.

Alright, folks; time once again for me to get off my ass and write a movie review for your reading pleasure. (By the way, I just watched Choke -- it's a really fucked up yet enjoyable movie. I'd give it a 4 out of 5.) So, Invictus is basically a…
