Permalink Reply by Nick Kroboth (Herr Daimyo) on May 10, 2012 at 6:29pm Fuck you NC. This amendment not only screws over gay people like myself, but it was so rushed and unfinished that the wording is so assbackwards it activly persecutes ANY couple that isn't married. Not to mention the needless addition to ban civil unions. So what NC, now I can't have ANY sort of recognized relationship? What if my partner was injured and hospitalised? What if I wanted to visit him, or he didn't have health insurance but couldn't become a dependant on mine? Do you dicks even care?

I understand what you're saying but what legal situation is it going to cause problems by saying a gay couple is married?
Permalink Reply by Kizmania on May 10, 2012 at 10:13pm what if a gay married couple wants to run a boy scout troop? Do public schools have to start teaching about Gay marriage? Do Churches have to allow gays to get married in their building? Do insurance companies have to offer gay couples benefits? When a gay couple who has adopted children get a divorce who gets custody? ect ect?
Permalink Reply by Nick Kroboth (Herr Daimyo) on May 10, 2012 at 10:24pm So what if they want to run a scout troop? Its no different than a heterosexual couple wanting to run one. There would be no concerted effort to teach about "gay marriage" and more than a "straight marriage". Maybe there would be more taught about the stonewall riots and Alan Turing and Harvey Milk, but thats about it. And well... YEA insurance companys would have to offer joint benefits, thats a big reason to actually get it certified by the damn state. And its the same as when a heterosexual couple gets divorced, primary or sole custody is given based on what would be best for the child.
All of these are well established issues with legal precedents already set dude.

2. ...Do public schools teach about straight marriage? I don't remember getting any marriage education in school. This question really makes it feel like you're grasping at straws.
3. Again, this is up to the Church.
3. Insurance companies should offer all the benefits straight couples enjoy to gay couples. After all, this is a battle for "a word, and not for equality." You do believe that, right?
4. I see no reason why standing child custody laws couldn't apply to homosexual parents. It's not like the mom gets full custody every time a heterosexual couple decides to get a divorce.
If you just treat any given gay couple as equal to a straight couple, these questions are fairly simple to answer.
what if a gay married couple wants to run a boy scout troop? What's the problem here? Unless you think gays are incapable of doing so? Or, worse, are somehow a danger to the troop?
Do public schools have to start teaching about Gay marriage? - Do they teach about marriage at all? If no then who cares. If yes then just keep teaching the same shit but add "oh and two guys and two gals can do it too". Simple.
Do Churches have to allow gays to get married in their building? No. A church should not be forced to abide by something like this if it does not agree with it. However, churches that do agree with it should absolutely be able to hold these ceremonies.
Do insurance companies have to offer gay couples benefits? Yes. Not to do so would be clearly unequal.
When a gay couple who has adopted children get a divorce who gets custody? Who gets custody in a heterosexual marriage? There are multiple ways to work this out, way that gays can use as well.
None of these questions raise any real concerns.
