This was the very first series I ever read the entire way through even with the cross overs.
But be warned there is a lot of them to read and buy.
Its an older set of comics but it has a huge range of characters from the marvel universe to the weakest to the most powerful beings.

is it available in graphic novel form or in the form of a big book of the series? looks interesting to me

this is my favorite book, but if you buy this, you should also look for Thanos Quest. It the book you need to read before this one

Ill throw the Ultimate Spiderman Omnibus on there as well, and Ultimates 1 and 2

If you're interested in X-men comics I recommend Grant Morrison's run of New X-men. Best X-men ever.

The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman is a great graphic novel series (there are 10 books in the main story) Preacher (9 books) Transmetropolatin (10 books) Kingdom Come (1 book) Fables (12 and counting)

It depends what you are into. If you just want the capes and cowls than it's easy to just pick up a few Superman and Captain America books, but if you want some more off the beaten track stuff it depends on taste. What else do you read?

Batman: The Long Halloween (And Dark Victory if you want some kind of continuation to TLH)

Batman: Year One (Also, if you want to know what happens next, you might also like The Man Who Laughs)

Joker by Brian Azzarello if you like the most twisted and sick side of The Joker (Great to read after watching TDK)

...As you can tell, I like Batman a lot, it is what got me into reading comics not too long ago.

I'd recommend Grant Morrison's The Invisible.
Astonishing X-Men by by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday.
Peter Milligan and Mike Allred's X-Force/X-Statix.
Mark Millar's run on the The Authority and his Ultimates 1 and 2 with Bryan Hitch.

If you want to pick up some trades and jump on a continuing series I have to recommend two for you.

Invincible is a more WB take on Superheroes but done really, really well.

The Boys is about as adult and graphic as you can get but is also so bizarrely realistic its scary. Its also really f&*$ing funny.
