If it's crap... We'll tell you

Last night I went to the Midnight showing to see Terminator. Now of course in a discussion early this week, I talked about how Rotten Tomatoes were giving bad reviews. And because of that I wasn't really pumped about seeing the movie. A lot of critics had the same complaints which made me nervous. So, what i did, before i left to go to the theater, i watched the 4 minute trailer that was online. And after seeing that, it got me excited and ready to go see another Terminator movie.

And after seeing it I can totally see what they were talking about on Rotten Tomatoes. Look I enjoyed the movie, I thought the movie was fun, had great action and was entertaining to watch. But this movie like most summer movies has a serious big problem. The way this movie ends is the term described as a penguin blow job. Which is a figure of speech as saying a movie setting up for a great climax but doesn't give you the climax, leaving you with blue balls.

Now if you know the Terminator mythology, then you know that in the war John Connor send his father back in time to protect his mother so she can give birth to John Connor who is the leader of the resisdence. And all the mythology that we have heard as far as what happens in the war between man and machine. And thats the movie we are hoping to see right? Well it gives us a taste but ends by saying "That movie will be coming up next" Yeah, that's what happens.

Now look, I wasn't expecting this movie to just be about John Connor and the resistence fighting the machines and us getting an ending as far as what happens to John Connor after he sends his father back in time. I was well aware of this movie not being that, but being the beginning of the war.

So, with this being a movie that takes place after judgement day and the war between man and machine begins, you would assume the kind of human drama of them trying to get over the fact of knowing that billions of people have died and they are the only ones left. Just at least tell the story to someone that didn't know what happened when judgement day happened. This movie instead makes everyone a badass, even a little kid. Now come on, we can't assume that everyone who survived judgement day is all of a sudden a bad ass. There has to be at least one person who is weak and is emotional after that day. And that's what a Post-Apocalyptic movie NEEDS to have, in order to get the audience to understand and see what kind of a position they are in as far as being the only people left alive and left to fight machines.

Which is another problem, most of these characters are underdeveloped, you don't beside John Connor and Marcus you know nothing about these other characters backrounds, not even Kyle Reese (an important character). This movie unfortunetly turned out to be a summer popcorn action flick. Which one good thing I can say is this movie has some GREAT action, including a special cameo at the end that would get you terminator fans cheering.

Another problem is that this movie has some poorly written scenes and bad dialogue written in parts. LIke in the beginning with Marcus being on death row waiting in his jail cell and Helen Botham Carter comes walking in offering him to donate his body. He only has one request "A Kiss" he then starts macking on her like crazy. Which was pointless and stupid. And there is a stupid romance between Marcus and Blair Williams that clearly looks forced. Come on, you'd think that there would be any kind of romance it would be with John Connor and Kate Connor, but no, that is completely ignored.

This movie clearly didn't get Terminator at all, it relied on action and completely didn't get any character developement, no feeling for any of the characters and most importantly SHOW why John Connor is Bad Ass. HOW CAN YOU BEG CHRISTIAN BALE TO PLAY JOHN CONNOR AND DON'T MAKE HIM JOHN CONNOR!!!!!!!!!! I think that it is safe to say MCG was the wrong guy to make this movie.

Overall, this movie is just as Korey always describes "A fun Summer movie" I won't see it again in theaters but i will see it again when it's on tv.

A little advice I want to give with people trying to make a trilogy, FINISH THE FIRST MOVIE FIRST. If you're going to do a trilogy, all the characters need to be developed. That way with the next movie, we could actually care alot more about them. And if they were going to do a trilogy, they should've made the story about John Connor starting up the resistence, calling out to all survivors to come join and focus on them building an army going around the country looking for survivors and saving them from machines trying to kill them. That way you get to meet the characters and begin to understand how Skynet is building their own army as well. And then in the next two movies build your way up to that point in the mythology. Instead they advertised as if THIS movie is the war that they are fighting leading up to John Connor sending Kyle Reese back in time.

RATING:

LOW MATINEE.

The movie didnt need to go through Kyle Reese's background. It isnt important to the storyline. As for people being "badass", not everyone in the movie was. Obviously the ones who are will be the ones going out to fight. When people are put through major events in life, such as war, they change. Theyre either start being "badass" or they give up, as they showed in the scene when the prisoners were arguing on there way to Skynet. I actually liked this movie despite the fact I felt it was a little predictable. I was also very suprised I liked a movie with McG atached to it. HAHA! Cinematography was amazing during the scene where John Connor crashes a helicopter. It was all one uncut scene from take off to crash. I wouldnt mind seeing it again in theaters.

Matinee seems to be the general consensus for most reviewers. My personal idea is that this film just exists to set up the next one, which will likely be great if that add a lot more story. (I haven't seen the movie yet)

The Austin Spill Party 2009 is coming along nicely. I've already got a few things in the works. Now all I need is an idea about how many people will be there.
