I would consider myself a fan of the Saw series, and not one of those who apologises for it, it’s fucking fun, and decently made considering the concept.
Now the other night I finally caught part 6, which over all, or too make long story short, was ok. There were things I liked and some I didn’t which I’ll cover, so to get a feel on this “review” or opinion, looking back at the past 5 here’s how I would rate them out of …um, 5
Saw 1 gets a 4.5/5 for the premise which was unique, and the overall gritty and disgusting feel.
Saw 2 gets a 5/5 for the idea to continue from 1 as well as the Eric Matthews character
Saw 3 gets 3/5 because I just wasn’t into the story and how it fit into the series
Saw 4 gets 4/5 because the series seemed to focus back to the main idea (IMO, shit this is all MO)
Saw 5 gets 3.5/5 because the character of Strahm and the traps
SO ! on to Saw 6, my complaints – they killed of Strahm last episode and that sucked. Here was a good arch enemey for the Jigsaw gang, and yet they kill him off at the end of part 5. And overall they kill off All the characters from the beginning. The cool thing about the series was how characters would show up in a couple movies, but the shitty thing is they don’t last more then a couple movies and here was no different
Oh shit, Spoilers **SPOILER** Alert.
Anyway, yeah lets break the movie down into it’s to basic parts – the trap part and the storyline (the continuing storyline from the previous parts)
The Traps part was great, the whole health care dealy that Carlyle mentioned in the crews’ review was spot on. Great stuff, and it fit into the mythos of the series, so yeah! 5/5 for the scarey, tense and gross traps section!
The soapy parts aren’t so good. Partly because they kill everyone and the new Jigsaw is just , I don’t know, an asshole, although the very end and how he deals with his trap was something to admire. Oh and earlier when I mentioned how the character of Strahm was great, yeah he should have totally lived and faced off with Hoffman this part! But no, they bring in Jigsaw’s former wife? Girlfriend? Whatever, and she’s awfully willing to accept a lot of her former lovers’ issues and past times!
So anyway, they may have set up part seven, a Jill vs Hoffman, which would make a fitting end to the series, but hard to say. I’m sure there will be a part seven, just here’s hopinh it’s good.
