If it's crap... We'll tell you

All of the Star Wars films, I know you will hate me but I don't care. I never liked, even as a kid. I'm 21 now so I can form my own opinions about films. I always had a feeling in my gut say I don't enjoy it as much as I should. I just don't find it as imaginative as other Sci-Fi films. I view Pitch Black, The Fifth Element and Aliens in higher regard than the Star Wars films. There is really nothing that I have liked about the Star Wars films.

But I just want to know some movies everyone else hates that the rest of the world seems to like. I also want to know why, not just say that you hate it.

Napoleon Dynamite.
I fail to see ANY humor in this movie at all. Most of the "jokes" aren't funny, nor is the character that interesting enough to actually CARE about. No character development gives me any hope that they WILL be interesting in the future, and most of the situations are just dumbly executed by the writers and actors.

Kill Bill 1 and 2.
Found it boring, dull, extremely typical movie where the characters aren't anything more than just stereotypes to begin with. What's worse, you can take 1 and 2 and edit it down to a MUCH BETTER single movie instead of spreading it out over two movies, AND makes better SENSE. I know that QT was looking for a Homage to a genre, but instead of being a GOOD homage to that genre, he instead focused on the PITFALLS of that genre and fell into them headfirst and brought the audience with him.

(Most of Jim Carey/Adam Sandler/Mike Myers movies)
Not all of them. There are a few here and there that I like. But for the most part, they all seem to be nothing more than "bit-comedy" that have to be stretched to full length movies, and it looses it's humor and becomes painful to watch. Love Guru for example was a throw-away character that was supposed to do 2 or 3 jokes and disappear. Instead, it was given it's own movie and it failed. MOST (not all) of their movies are the same thing to me, a character/bit that would work for a good 15-30min bit getting stretched too far and tearing apart at the seams.

To be fair though...I dont think anyone liked the Love Guru, let alone considered it a great movie

Totally with you on the Jim Carey/Adam Sandler/Mike Myers movies. Add Will Ferrel and Ben Stiller.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. The first one was entertaining but the second one was a throw back/parody of all the stuff that I grew up on, nothing special. It had some great moments, but not the film that I'd waste time watching again.

Superbad.
All of the jokes fell flat for me. Call me crazy, but I didn't go out to wild parties or try so hard to get booze and get laid in high school. It seemed like Johan Hill was trying too hard to be edgy and risque, but I've heard funnier lines from Cartman. And McLovin just served as a cheesy sidekick as opposed to a nerdy guy who could actually exist. Nothing in the film felt accurate or realistic as opposed to films like Knocked Up or Forgetting Sarah Marshall. More than that, touting the film as one of the funniest movies ever made- when it hadn't been out a year- and spoiling the period blood joke, among others, just made me dislike it even more. And those dick drawings? Shock factor like that doesn't always work. If people want a raunchy sex comedy, they can watch Porky's or Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

So do you think people should stop trying to make those raunchy comedies because Porky's had perfected it? I cant be sure, but I think one of the trailers before superbad had "from the makers of superbad" as a selling point, lol

Dude seriously we have like 15 threads exactly like this already. Somebody's gonna say the Godfather and then MDS is gonna write a fucking novel defending it. Give it a rest already. I vote this as the most unnecessary thread of the day.

Now now.... I will NOT write a novel.

More like an essay. =P

Mike, I have been on the site a year, but I'm now starting to do things apart from listening to reviews and ACOCO's. I want to know what people like and don't like about films.

If you've been here for a year, then you've had ample time to notice things like the search feature at the top of every forum section...

Typing in the name of this forum results in two forums that already exist and are exactly the same.

I've been hearing complaining that James Cameron's Avatar is racist for showcasing a main cast filled with white people. Not only that, but the main character who is a good guy, is also white, and he's the one who saves the "poor helpless" Na'Vi fro…
