Which movie were excited about, perhaps as a child, that was so disappointing you lost that innocent excitement for new movies? The resulting disappointment made you check with critics or word of mouth before you saw another new movie.

For me, the movie was Wing Commander (1999), which I saw in the theaters at 13. It was not only a poorly written, cast, directed and acted movie but it was based on a video game I truly loved. After that, I'd never just rush out and watch another movie without looking into the reviews first.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I had loved the first one and adored the games. This film was shit and after it I made sure to be more careful about films.
@Caitlin Turner
Our movies are both video game movies. A pattern emerges?
A Clockwork Orange: I was just becoming a film fanatic and I was scared that all amazing films would be very disturbing.
So do you like clockwork orange or not now?
I love it.
The Golden Compass. I had read all the books 3 years previously, and was just waiting for the movie to come out. I was so excited when it did, but it was such a let down that I almost cried. A goddamn disaster.

Since then I've been a frequent visitor of rotten tomatoes, not to see who liked the film, but to hear peoples different take on the film. Someone could give a bad review and still say that this movie is for me.
The Last Airbender seems to come to mind, and yet I'm not too sure why. Perhaps that was the point where I finally gave up on all Shyamalan films.
Scary Movie 3
After watching Chicken Little in the theater I almost wanted to never see a cartoon on the silver screen, ever again that's how bad it was. Madagascar is another one, while not bad, extremely mediocre it should not have made into a 90 minute film! It felt more like a 60 minute TV special.
