What movies have you guys seen that you went in not expecting much, but walked out completely wowed? For me, the big one would have to be District 9. I went in expecting just another sci-fi actioner...and instead got one of the strongest, most compelling political allegories in years. What say you?

Batman Begins. At first I was like, "It's Batman, but it will never beat Batman (1989)," but I found out it was something wayyyyy different.

Also X men first class. I was like "Ugh, another X men film, whatever," and I watch it on the big screen and I was like wow.

Exactly what I was going to say. That and Hugo are the reasons why I try to anticipate movies less by trailers and more by talent.

Ong bak, it's a thai Martial arts Film starring Tony Jaa, I hadn't seen any Tony Jaa film before I saw Ong Bak... the martial arts and stunts in that film are pretty amazing.

alien-it was my first movie from pre-90's and i thought it would be lame. However it turned out to be one of the best horror movies i've ever seen

you just reminded me of when I finally got around to seeing Highlander and Scarface, the plots seem kinda dull but they were pretty awesome movies.

I think to a certain extent Iron Man could qualify. I had heard good things about it, but I never thought it would be such a good film. The opposite? Iron Man 2!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a very good film, but I didn't expect that at all, I thought it would be a piece of crap science fiction drama film.

But I did not real have movies that I went in having low expectations to actually "wow" me.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a great example–you're right, that was shocking how good it was.

I had the same thoughts on all those movies.

ATM...

The Raid.

man is that film all its hyped to be? I watched the directors first film merantau, it was low budget but holy shit do indonesians know how to kick the shit out of each other
