Batman didn't murder him. He jumped at him and the three of them went over, and that's all we saw. He probably didn't even know there was as deep a drop when he did so. What we didn't see was the split second choice of him choosing Dent over the kid in trying to save somebody, which, obviously, he was barely able to do, as he also fell just like Dent, if you didn't notice, his armor being the only reason he didn't die (although, as we saw in the next film, it fucked up his leg for the first act until conveniently forgotten about later, but that's a different movie with its own problems pretty prevalent).

I'm pretty sure he knew there was a hole behind Dent, because obviously Dent put himself there to not be attacked from behind. What he probably didn't know was how deep the drop was. He wasn't there to attack Dent. He was there to reason with him. Even though he had been taught to mind his surroundings, he was always not up to par in that department, and the warehouse ruins were an unstable environment as it was.

I don't think he killed the dude in the pancaked garbage truck. It was entirely survivable in movie terms. If you've ever seen Dante's Peak (a movie wrought with cliches that would've been better received if Roland Emmerich had his name attached to it, but it has some cool action and effects that hold up rather well for being dated), there's a dude who survives his truck cab being crushed tons and tons of rock. BUT, you are right about TDKR in that department, as that was one of the things that lowered the rating of that movie for me. TDKR is a very excellently crafted movie with a script that was at least 2-3 drafts from being ready to shoot.

Curse my logic? Heh. I was told I would be a worthwhile addition to this site when I was recommended to join (shame I haven't found the guy who did, though- wanted to thank him). This was a good discussion. It wasn't just the two, or as is usually the case on this internet frontier, one of us screaming at the other, walking away a pompous ass. A good solid debate, with agreements and vice versa. Best of all, it's changed my perception of you. Looking forward to more discussions like this.

Also, bonus points for Dante's Peak.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...

or the one.

Just looking at that still chokes me up a bit (even knowing it's not the end).
