Permalink Reply by SketchedLilly on May 5, 2011 at 9:19am I think it's just a slow build up since the episodes are only a few minutes long. Once the characters are estabilished, it will be a lot smoother
I personally loved last week's episode...this week's seemed a little weak because it was all backstory with very little happening in the present. I am, however, happy that they are using Outworld instead of trying to rationalize Mortal Kombat monsters into humans with severe problems as was originally intended. If you saw the original Mortal Kombat Rebirth trailer, you'll remember that Baraka was a failed chop doc that went nuts.

Permalink Reply by The Walkin Dude on May 12, 2011 at 8:33pm I watched the first one and wasn't really impressed, but got caught up on the rest last night.
The Sonya/Jax stuff is too melodramatic. I like the two male leads a lot from their other work, and think Sonya got a job as a Borg for a reason. The dialogue was cheesy, the action was fairly boring. Still it's Mortal Kombat and I grew up with this series, so seeing a "new" take on the characters is good through my nostalgia goggles. Seeing the real Kano and hearing about Jax's arms did get me excited! When I was in Jr. High the first MK movie came out and it was THE movie to see, I waited in a line around the building. I loved it and still do (refuse to watch it again lest my fond memories be ruined.)
It's funny how the original movie may be dated as far as acting, fighting and story, but honestly I don't think this super serious take is adding much to it. The Mileena/Kitana episodes were awful. It's like they had an idea they didn't have the budget for so did (horrible) animation for half of it. Plus the Kombat must have called in sick when they made that one.
The only reason I am sticking around is the Johnny Cage episode. I think that was terrific, it didn't take itself to seriously and made me chuckle. They played Johnny perfectly, a self obsorbed, cheesy but frustrated character. Loved it and the end of that episode definitely put a hook in me.
Plus I hear Sub Zero is coming in episode 6.

It's not great, it's not horrible.
