Hello everybody, I’m Milkman26789Z and we all know and love Pixar. The company that gave us "Up", "A Bugs Life", "Finding Nemo", "Monster’s Inc." and not to forget, the timeless "Toy Story" series. In 2006, Pixar released "Cars." It was stapled as Pixar’s worst film but, was still a good movie. It had heart. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. Of all films, Pixar picks the film called their worst and makes a sequel. Not a good idea… So, now, we have "Cars 2." This is now considered Pixar’s worst and believe it or not… It has a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. Is this movie as bad as everyone says or am I the Tow Truck that’s surrounded by racecars in this situation? Let’s find out.

The Characters! We have almost all the cars from the first film back except for Doc. They describe him like he’s dead in the film so, who knows? It seems that Pixar used Mater has the main character instead of my personal favorite, Lightning McQueen. This is pretty shocking because Lightning is literately in the front of the poster. That’s like when they put Buzz first on the "Toy Story 3" poster. It just isn’t right. Instead we get 2 new characters, Finn and Holly. These are the spies that mistake Mater for a secret agent. Finn’s personality, I couldn’t quite get. He’s an old time agent but, that’s just about it. Holly is Mater’s love interest that’s really just a first time agent. Lightning is pretty much a poor man’s Buzz Lightyear this time around. He’s the character that is more welcome to reality than in the first film. It’s disappointing that Pixar didn’t deliver with the characters. That’s what made Toy Story 3, Ratatouille and others, so special.

The Story! The story isn’t really original. It’s about Lightning McQueen racing in a world wide race to promote this new kind of fuel that is over shadowing gas and the "Lemons", cars that only run on gas, try to destroy Lightning McQueen and the other racers to get rid of this new way of driving. So, Mater, Finn and Holly have to save the racers and stop the "Lemons." It may sound different on paper but, it’s still clichéd. Someone getting mistaken for a secret agent when they turn out to be the complete opposite. It’s basically Hannah-Barbara’s "The Man Called Flintstone" retold with cars. It’s not often that Pixar failed with the story. Matter fact, this is the only time they failed with the story.

The Animation! It’s Pixar animation. Do I REALLY need to go into detail? But, there’s one thing in the movie that didn’t look right and that was in the beginning with the ocean. It just looked odd. I don’t know, maybe it’s just the milk. The action scenes are great, too. I’m not really a man of action but, they made me want to be.

The Voices! The voices are great. I mean, when are they not? But, the problem that most people have with this movie is Mater talks to much. You can only listen to Larry the Cable Guy for so long, until it gets annoying. I’d be lying if I said that his performance didn’t make me laugh from time to time. Plus, when Mater gets hurt, I actually felt his emotion. So, they did do something right.

So, in conclusion, Cars 2 isn’t as bad as everyone says. The problem is, everyone looked at this as a Pixar film and not an animated film in general. We’ve been spoiled by Pixar’s perfect run that we expected this film to be above average when, we have to realize that, it happens to everyone. It happened to Disney, it happened to Cartoon Network but, we just didn’t want it to happen to Pixar. So, as much as it pains me to rate this as the first Pixar film I’ve ever reviewed, I give this film 2 ½ out of 5 stars. It’s kinda surreal to see this happen. But, I do have a question. How is it possible for cars to reproduce? Do they do it in the gas tank or something? G’night everybody!

You bring up a very good point at the end of your review. Everyone goes through a slip-up every now and then, including Pixar. The first Cars was essentially nothing more than a marketing scheme, but at the same time, Pixar still attempted to make the storyline well-established and the characters fun and heartfelt. Some people liked it (such as myself), and some people didn't. Cars 2 just lets go of those attempts and ends up as nothing more than an hour-and-a-half toy commercial. Yet at the same time, they still tried to take Mater seriously, and because he's such a goofy redneck character, it doesn't work. That's what annoyed me about this film.

Two stars out of five for me.
