Greeting fellow metal heads. I love hearing about good metal bands that most people haven't heard of. So if you know of a band that is amazing that you think no one has heard of, post it here. I'll start.

Enjoy!

Just a few

...sigh.  What should I post in response to half-baked metalcore and misguided progressive?  Let's try some of this:

Deathspell Omega - The Shrine of Mad Laughter:  Black metal the way people with skill actually make it.  A genre that too often is lyrically laughable, these guys actually know what they're doing, it would be worth it to read along.

http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/deathspellomega/fasitemaledictiini...

Coffinworm - Start Saving for Your Funeral:  Sludge/Doom.  Filthy.  Like, disgustingly filthy.

Boris - Missing Pieces:  They're Boris, and... uh, they sound like Boris.  Which is to say completely awesome.

Equilibrium - Mana:  Because you know, every once in a while, you get that urge to venture out into the woods with a wooden sword and slay whatever you come across.  This would make the best journeying music ever, just saying.

Triptykon - Myopic Empire:  Current band of that guy who formed a little known band called Celtic Frost.  If that's not enough to get you to listen to this, I'm done trying.  That's 5 to match your 5, get back to me.

Let's get old school for a bit to see what types of bands influenced every band on this thread so far.

and of course these guys

Touche, sir. I am into most forms of metal (even metalcore/deathcore) I just love metal. But I'll retort with real metal if you please :p

The only Genre of metal I admittingly don't like is black metal. Though I have to say I'm digging Deathspell Omega, but they're not typical black metal. They are more death/black metal, Imo. Like I said I'm not into Black metal, but here is what I got.

Extol. Oldie, but goodie.

Here is some filthy sludge.

It speaks for its self.

Equilibrium is good. But I prefer Kalmah for my epic journeys.

That is nice, Didnt hear about it. Totally going to check this out. But How do I even respond to that? I guess I'll just use Wintersun.

And Anata, just because I feel like they should be mentioned.

I do like Cynic because I think he uses interesting vocal effects, but I'm not much into the others. I never got into keyboards in metal.  I think that keyboards take away the heaviness and brutality of the music.  I like a raw, brutal sound in metal.  As a musician, I respect these bands for what they do and the talent they have, but I'm just not into it.  You might like bands like Born of Osiris, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Cadaveria.  They are similar to some you posted.  I'm sure you've heard of some of these already.

Ditto on Kalmah. Anata is an EXTREMELY  technical band. Tons of time changes, and layers would make it difficult for even casual metal listeners to enjoy them, though.

Not sure if these have been mentioned but some other great ones are:

  • Behemoth-death(black possibly) metal, brutal stuff, anti-religious mostly, though they've become famous over the years.
  • Vader-death metal, mainstream to most metalheads, anti-religious as well, still good music
  • The Classic Struggle-maybe not so well-known, but they keep melodies simple..good stuff
  • Hypocrisy-I like these guys. They sing about weird crap(aliens), but make it work.
  • Devil Driver-mainstream, some simple but fun death metal beats. However, lyrics are always shit.(lead singer is tiny, though...and weird)
  • Nile-Death metal, most people know of them, but can be difficult to get into. Once you do, though, it's extremely pleasant. Also, fun to hear lyrics over Egyptian lore and mythology.
  • Goatwhore-Death metal, the vocalist has a good gargle to compliment his band mates music.
  • Dark Tranquility- melodic-death metal, though if you're just getting into metal, it's a nice introductory band
  • Amon Amarth- mainstream death(viking metalz, yarghh!) metal, but they make some epic sounds, almost orchestraic, epic sweeps. Good stuff if you're not some pretentious metal-head who gives other bands a chance.
  • Sabaton- very power-metal-ish, but fun band. The vocalist is actually pretty damn good for what he does. If you don't like growling, and enjoy good vocalization, the lead singer fits the part without having to resort to falsetto.(if you like Hammerfall, Camelot, you may dig this band...I sure did)
  • Disarmonia Mundi- lead singer of Soilwork branched out to this project with another italian fella, and they made this band. This is how I would rather Soilwork sound, to be honest. Good stuff...
  • Kataklysm- mainstream, but still brutal death metal. Those darn Canucks can rock it hard...
  • Destroy, Destroy, Destroy- Not a very well-known band, but some of their stuff is pretty fun. I was pleasantly surprised listening to them, once I got over the fact that the lead singer plays in leather underwear only.
  • Iron Maiden- No explanation needed. Legends.
  • Bolt Thrower- Excellent band. Some would say all their albums sound too similar for their liking, but I still enjoy them. They have a nice chug you can keep up with. Legends in their own rite.
  • Gojira- Death Metal...from FRANCE!?! Who knew the Frenchies could rock so hard and so awesome? Lyricaly content in line with Pro-Environmental content, yet still heavy? Fantastic band...
  • Kreator- Also legends...German Metal, without the weird technocrap....excellent stuff
  • Ahab- Doom Metal. Though not Doom Metal isn't for everyone(including some metalheads) this is some extremely atmospheric music, not to mention long. It sets the mood for it's lyrical content(the band's content lays over Moby Dick, as if the name didn't hint you in)
  • Callenish Circle- Death metal, mixed with distorted sound effects, but in a good way. Great band, if you give 'em a shot.
  • Manilla Road- Traditional Heavy Metal. A tragically underrated band, who never really gets their due. The lead singer(original) has a strange voice you don't hear in metal too often, but a couple of listens over, and you'll be scratching your head over how these guys didn't truly make it big in their lifetime.
  • Immortal- Black Metal, goofy covers, silly makeup and gear is a turn-off for most. However, the music is what saves them, if the listener gives it a shot.
  • Dismember- Death metal. My all time favorite band of ANY musical genre. They are your classic death metal band with staple-subject matter; lyrics regarding death,  religion, war. Quick riffs, snarls and growls. Their sound is always distorted and dirty, as if they record from their garage, but it helps bring out the character of their songs even more so. There are other bands that do what they do, maybe even better, I won't lie. But for some reason, this band just resonates with me. Gold...

Anata deserve to be mentioned anywhere because they're fantastic.  Props for the Electric Wizard and Cynic posts too.  I'm really not sure what direction to head in next, so I'm just gonna post another group of songs for you to check out.

Immolation - The Rapture of Ghosts.  Seeing as you posted Anata, it might be a waste of time to post Immolation since you likely already know them, but this song is so damn good that I'm going to post it anyway in the hopes that someone who hasn't clicks on it.

Primordial - As Rome Burns.  An Irish metal band that way more people should know than actually do.  This is from what I believe to be their best record, To the Nameless Dead.

Cyclone - So Be It.  Thrash all day every day 'cause it's the right thing to do. \m/

Decree - Finite Years.  Noisy, guitar-driven industrial in the vein of Streetcleaner-era Godflesh if they were way more pissed off.  And it's from 2011.

Brutality - These Walls Shall Be Your Grave.  Death metal with riffs for days and days and days and days.

Not a metalhead by any definition but I like these:

I fucking LOVE pirate metal!
Same dude! I got these guys' first two albums and they're awesome! One of the best things about them is how each song's lyrics is an epic tale of piracy and adventure. Their album art is also kick-ass.

...this is me part trolling, part wondering everyone's opinions on this.
