Alright you bitches, tell me what you thought of the new Mass Effect 3 extended cut endings as opposed to the original. I'm curious what what the masses think. No holds barred.

I really enjoyed it. It's not perfect, but it is much better than the original. Loved the last scene where all the characters are around the memorial.

I thought the originals were OK, but underwritten, with some legitimate holes, all of which have now been addressed. There's also extension to the final push to the beam, and to the 'Catalyst' part. I enjoyed the originals, but saw the shortcomings. I love the Extended Cut. Basically every problem has been addressed and the, in my opinion, successful explanations shown. The 'Catalyst God-child' is further explained, and made more plausible, but with that element you're either on board or you're not. Also Synthesis is still about as soft-sci-fi as you can get, but I like the Catalyst's extended reasoning as to why it could be a good direction for the universe to move in.

Fantastic!!

I'm sure Bioware did their best but I still hate the ending. Yes it made things a little bit more clear but it still left a lot of questions that weren't answered. For me the biggest problem with the entire game is the STAR CHILD and it will always be the Star Child. I love the Mass Effect series but it's time to move on.

Amen.

Thanks for the comments guys! While I agree it's better than before, I'm still totally underwhelmed with the ending. I thought (operative word) before the release of the game that Bioware was building to a win, lose or draw ending, not a Shepard dies and these three shitty things then happn ending.

The God child at least as far as a concept was NEVER explained or even eluded to in the entire series. So when you get broad-sided with it at the end (even after the extended cut) it STILL doesn't actally make any sense. In my opinion.

I was actually glad that they added the "go fuck yourself" option. Then I wanted to go back and kick some Reaper ass. But instead that was the worst option of all. Why? ... Because fundamentally I think the game was flawed, right from the beginning, when they needed a super-weapon. The Catalyst.

Lots of people don't like the fact that Shepard dies. I understand a hero dying for a cause. That goes all the way back to antiquity ie Hercules burning on a funeral pire or the Christ figure, but why the fuck do we always have to end it that way? Can't there ever be an ending that has victory with a streak of loss in it? Ever hear of bitter-sweet?

If they make a film I fully expect the ending to change so we can get a satisfying ending. Not a HAPPY endng. (that's dirty)
But an ending that fully encapsulates all of the themes that have been presented throughout all of the series.

I still love this game. It's definitly one of my favorites of all time. I still tear up when Legion and Mordin sacrifice themselves, so why do I still feel empty when Shepard sacrifices himself? ... It's just a shame.

Anyways, case closed. Thanks Bioware for making such a great game even if the ending was less than satisfying.

The god-child was a terrible idea, and the little boy throughout the game was an amateurish way to get a cheap sympathy feel for the fall of Earth. The Fall of Earth song by Clint Mansell is the only reason I feel anything when Earth falls to the Reapers. All the things they could have used and it's that kid (Even in the trailer).

As I said in the other thread, I thought this was better, but it's not saying a lot. Of course, I wasn't really expecting much since there was only so much Bioware could have done to "expand" on the current endings. Actually, scratch that, I was expecting more cinematics of the battle of Earth at the end of the game, but didn't get that. Still, it's better than the original endings.

Still shit.

Pretty much.

But you totally got to see the aliens cheering. Isn't that what everyone wanted?

I really, really hope that isn't what everyone wanted.

Everyone wanted a memorable ending that made sense. We got the memorable ending... Just... Not the 2nd half unfortunately. (pregnant pause) oops.

Just to throw in an idea, I want to say that if the extended cut DLC ending would've been the actual ending of the game, I could go with that, even if I would still be pissed about the fact that Shepard has to die and I can't do anything about it. But now, after three months of waiting for a new ending, it just didn't work for me. I mean I enjoyed the fact that they explained how everything works and what's the deal with the Catalyst and the Crucible. But after every person on the planet was pissed at the ending, all they did was explain it. I would've liked to see it altered in a certain way.

At this exact moment, am I pleased with how the Mass Effect trilogy ended? Yeah, sure I don't hate it. Do I like it? Nope.

But all in all I think it would be pathetic of BioWare to come out now and say: "OK, OK, now here's the real ending!". Especially with that other topic I've seen about the fact that Shepard is still alive and how his love interest isn't ready to accept the fact that he is dead. But why would they to that? Why would they give us "hope"? I would be disgusted with BioWare if they made another Mass Effect game after they've been bragging for years that it will be a trilogy. And if they launch new DLC about what happens after the ending of Mass Effect 3, what could they possibly make it about? They find Shepard alive and everyone is only now truly happy? A 3 to 5 minutes of DLC? Fuck that.

Just some thoughts of mine. :P
